STATEMENT ON THE RESUMPTION OF N2 CONSTRUCTION WORKS BETWEEN KWABHACA AND eMAXESIBENI
Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM) welcomes the confirmation that the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has fulfilled its commitment to settle the outstanding payment due to the contractor responsible for the N2 construction project between KwaBhaca and eMaXesibeni.
Following the stakeholder engagement held on 21 August 2026, SANRAL has confirmed that the outstanding payment has been processed and paid to the contractor. Construction activities will therefore resume, with no further interruption anticipated as a result of the payment matter.
The Executive Mayor of Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Cllr. Tsileng Sobuthongo, confirmed this development this afternoon, noting that all stakeholders remain committed to working together to ensure that the project is completed within the agreed timeframes.
βWe welcome the fulfilment of SANRALβs commitment and the resolution of the payment matter. We are encouraged that construction will resume and that all stakeholders remain committed to ensuring that this important infrastructure project is completed within the stipulated timeframes,β said Executive Mayor Sobuthongo.
The Municipality acknowledges the impact that the disruption has had on motorists, businesses, surrounding communities and other road users. Government therefore extends its sincere apology to all affected parties for the inconvenience caused and appreciates their patience, understanding and cooperation during this period.
ANDM further commends SANRAL, the contractor, local municipalities, the business fraternity and all other stakeholders for their cooperation and constructive engagement in resolving the matter.
