WATER PROJECTS SET TO IMPROVE LIVES AS ANDM HANDS OVER THREE CONTRACTORS

Access to clean and reliable water is set to improve the lives of communities in Umzimvubu & Matatiele as the Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM) takes another step towards addressing water challenges and improving the quality of life of residents. This, as the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Tsileng Sobuthongo, will on Thursday, 29 October 2026, officially hand over three water infrastructure projects to contractors as part of the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to improving water service delivery across the district.

These projects include the KuChane Water Supply Scheme in Ward 17, valued at R3.28 million; the Portable Water Supply Cluster 2 in Ward 17, valued at R80.15 million; and the Matatiele Ward 6 Water Supply Project Refurbishment, valued at R4.38 million.

The interventions will include borehole development and pipeline to supply Nkangala Village and surrounding areas, pipeline infrastructure, connections to existing reservoir infrastructure and the refurbishment of water supply facilities.

Portable Water Supply Cluster 2 which will supply Ward 17 and surrounding wards such as 16 and 25 villages. A connection to an existing 2500 kl Reservoir in Lubhacweni, which will benefit villages like Ncunteni, Papanana, Cwalinkungu and Mabhaceni. This Project will be completed in August 2027.

Matatiele Ward 6 Water Supply Project Refurbishment will help in the construction of a Borehole Pump Station which will benefit an estimated number of 500 households and employment opportunities for about ten (10) people.

HONOURING THE LEGACY OF O.R. TAMBO

Alfred Nzo District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Tsileng Sobuthongo, today joined Deputy President Paul Mashatile & City of Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor, Ald. Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, at the O.R. Tambo wreath-laying ceremony at Tamboville Cemetery in Wattville, Benoni.

Born in Nkantolo, Bizana, in the Alfred Nzo District, Oliver Reginald Tambo remains a source of immense pride for the region and the nation. His visionary leadership, selfless sacrifice and unwavering commitment to freedom and democracy continue to inspire generations.

Held under the theme “Honouring O.R. Tambo’s Legacy: Inspiring Active Citizenship and Responsible Voting,” the ceremony paid tribute to his enduring contribution to South Africa’s liberation struggle while promoting active citizenship and responsible participation in democracy.

His legacy lives on in the people of Alfred Nzo and across South Africa.

PUBLIC NOTICE: WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION – MALUTI

Alfred Nzo District Municipality informs residents of Maluti and surrounding areas of a water supply interruption due to a pipe burst at Ramohlakoana.

The maintenance team and contractor are on site, awaiting pipeline pressure to decrease before commencing repairs. Water supply is expected to be restored by tomorrow, subject to repair progress.

Affected Areas: Belfort, Mafube Mission, Mokgangkganeng, Themba Disquare, Nchodu, Jabavu, Motsekuoa, Ramohlakoana, Protea, Rockville, Maritseng, Skiti, Maluti, Malubaluba, Nkululekweni, Mapateng and Rammatle.

Residents are requested to use available water sparingly.

The Municipality apologises for the inconvenience. Further updates will be communicated.

HANDOVER OF TITLE DEEDS IN MATATIELE LOCAL MUNICIPALITY

Matatiele Local Municipality, in partnership with relevant government stakeholders, today conducted the official handover of title deeds to beneficiaries at Maluti Civic Centre, Ward 01, in Matatiele Local Municipality.

The handover marks an important milestone in ensuring that residents have formal ownership of their properties. It provides beneficiaries with legal recognition of ownership, strengthens security of tenure, and offers families greater peace of mind regarding their homes and properties.

Speaking during the event, the Mayor of Matatiele Local Municipality, Cllr Patrick Stuurman, emphasised the importance of ensuring that eligible residents receive the necessary documentation to secure their property rights and build a better future for themselves and their families.

Hon. Ntombovuyo Nkopane, a Member of Parliament, reaffirmed the government's commitment to working collaboratively with local municipalities and relevant stakeholders to support service delivery initiatives that improve the quality of life of communities across the district.

The programme reflects the importance of cooperation between government institutions in addressing property ownership challenges and ensuring that beneficiaries enjoy the rights and security associated with legally recognised property ownership.

Through initiatives such as this, government continues to promote dignity, security of tenure, and sustainable community development.
