As the LIASA Research Librarian of the Year 2025, Ms Patricia Badenhorst facilitated the KZN Academic Librarians Research Capacity Workshop at the DUT Library alongside Ms Sara Mitha, Postgraduate Librarian at DUT Library. The workshop covered on Journal metrics, researcher visibility and Using the Web of Science Research Assistant to strengthen literature searching; the event was attended by academic librarians from Durban University of Technology (DUT), the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT), and the University of Cape Town (UCT).

Although words cannot fully express the pain of losing someone so dear, we find comfort in knowing that Mbuleli lived a life of purpose, integrity, compassion, and service. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, the knowledge he shared, and the love he freely gave.

As we bid farewell, we give thanks to God for the precious gift of his life and the many memories we will forever cherish.

Rest in eternal peace, Mr. Mbuleli Mpokela.

Your kindness, your dedication, and your legacy will never be forgotten.

[In Memoriam]
The LIASA joins the Rhodes University community and the broader Library and Information Services (LIS) profession in mourning the passing of our colleague, Mr. Mbuleli Mpokela.

On behalf of the LIASA Board, members, and the entire library and information community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues at Rhodes University Library, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mr. Mpokela dedicated nearly three decades of service to Rhodes University Library, where he served in various library sections before most recently serving as Faculty Liaison Librarian for the Humanities Faculty. He will be remembered for his professionalism, humility, warmth, and unwavering commitment to librarianship.

A passionate lifelong learner, he earned a Bachelor of Information Science, an Honours degree, and was recognised with the Best Conference Poster Award at the 19th LIASA Annual Conference in 2018. His contributions to the library profession have left a lasting legacy.

The South African library and information community has lost a dedicated professional and colleague. May his family and loved ones find strength and comfort during this difficult time.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
