“We do not have a water problem — we have a water management problem.” 💧

On this episode of Voices of the Sector, we sit down with Mr. Dez Fransman, Board Chairperson of the Vaal-Orange Catchment Management Agency (VOCMA) — the largest catchment management agency in the country, covering close to 77% of South Africa, from Ermelo in Mpumalanga all the way through the Free State and Northern Cape.

Ahead of the 2nd AWSISA Africa & Global South Water and Sanitation Dialogue, he tells us exactly what he wants on the agenda in Durban: pollution.

“We talk about it, but we don’t zoom much into it.” And if we don’t start zooming in, he warns, we will sit with a problem.

Integrated Water Resources Management at HAMK 🇫🇮🇿🇦

To wrap up our strategic mission in Finland, the delegation visited Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) for a session on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).

The visit focused on capacity building, water resource sustainability, and practical strategies to tackle Non-Revenue Water (NRW) challenges. HAMK presented its 6-module training framework, designed to equip water sector leaders with advanced management skills, circular economy models, and climate resiliency strategies.
