LUANGWA COUNCIL CHAIRPERSON ATTENDS PTA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AT FEIRA DAY SECONDARY SCHOOL
Luangwa, Feira – 18th September 2026:
Luangwa Town Council Chairperson, Her Worship Ms. Loveness Banda, today attended the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Annual General Meeting at Feira Day Secondary School.
The meeting was officiated by the District Administrative Officer, Ms. Prisca Kabosha, who delivered remarks on behalf of the District Commissioner, Mr. Luke Chikani.
Ms. Kabosha commended parents, teachers and other stakeholders for their unwavering support towards education programmes, noting that their collective efforts had played an instrumental role in the significant progress witnessed in the education sector in recent years.
She said the Government had made notable strides in improving the education system, particularly through the provision of free education, which has increased school enrolment and enabled more children to access education.
Ms. Kabosha noted that Feira Day Secondary School had also experienced a significant increase in enrolment, adding that free education was an important step towards ensuring that children, regardless of their background, had an opportunity to receive an education. She further highlighted the contribution of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), particularly the provision of desks, which had helped create a more conducive learning environment and enabled learners to focus and concentrate on their studies.
Meanwhile, the Area Member of Parliament for Feira Constituency , Hon. Emmanuel Tembo, encouraged learners to work hard and take education seriously, noting that education was essential in preparing young people for future opportunities and enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and the country.
Hon. Tembo said young people should be encouraged to pursue higher education, obtain relevant qualifications and undertake professional training, noting that education should prepare learners for diverse career paths beyond political and leadership positions.
He further emphasised the importance of prudent planning and prioritisation of development projects, noting that although the Council receives CDF resources, the available funds must be carefully allocated to address priority community needs. Hon. Tembo called for collective responsibility among political leaders, the Council, parents, teachers, communities and other stakeholders in promoting education and implementing development programmes.
“Our children are our future, and investing in their education is investing in the future of our community and our country,” he said.
Speaking at the meeting, Her Worship Ms. Loveness Banda emphasised that the PTA Annual General Meeting was not only about teachers but also provided an important platform for parents to actively participate in the education and development of their children.
Her Worship Ms. Banda said the school, parents, the Council and other stakeholders must work together to create a conducive environment for children to learn, develop and become responsible citizens.
She encouraged parents to take an active role in their children’s education, including supporting regular school attendance, providing the necessary support at home and maintaining close communication with teachers.
The Council Chairperson also recognized the dedication of teachers, noting that teachers are the second parents to our children despite heavy workloads, teachers continued to provide education and support to learners.
She observed that learners have different abilities, including fast and slow learners, and therefore require patience, encouragement and appropriate support to reach their full potential.
Her Worship Ms. Banda further stressed that the responsibility of educating children should not be left to teachers alone, but should be shared by parents, the school, the Council and the wider community.
