ZCSA WARNS AGAINST ONLINE HATE SPEECH

The Zambia Cyber Security Agency (ZCSA) has cautioned against rising cases of hate speech, cyberbullying and harmful online conduct during and after the 2026 General Elections.

The Agency reminded citizens that freedom of expression must not be abused to insult, ridicule or promote hate, warning that creating or amplifying unlawful content may attract sanctions under cyber laws.

ZCSA urged the public to think before posting, desist from sharing harmful content, verify information before forwarding, and report unlawful material through proper channels to foster a peaceful and respectful digital environment.

Zambia Army Says Circulating Flogging Video Is Old

The Zambia Army says a video circulating on social media showing soldiers flogging an apprehended illegal miner in North-Western Province is old, with disciplinary action already taken against those involved.

Zambia Army Spokesperson SYDNEY MWEWA says the soldiers seen in the video were positively identified as members of the Zambia Army.

Colonel MWEWA says the soldiers were charged over the incident, while Platoon Commander Lieutenant JAPHET BANDA, who was responsible for the troops at the time, was dismissed from the Army.

He says it is unfortunate that the public has learnt about the incident after the Army had already taken action against the soldiers involved.

Colonel MWEWA told ZNBC news in a statement that the Zambia Army does not condone indiscipline in any form, adding that the conduct shown in the video was contrary to the values of professionalism, discipline and respect for human dignity.

He said any soldier found wanting will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the Defence Act, Chapter 106 of the Laws of Zambia.

Colonel MWEWA said the Army remains committed to maintaining high standards of discipline and accountability.

He said measures are continually being strengthened to ensure that the conduct of soldiers reflects the honour and integrity expected of the Zambia Army.

God rejected Hichilema five times, Zambians forced Him to allow him to rule — Kambwili

FORMER Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili says President Hakainde Hichilema's five unsuccessful presidential bids were a sign that God had not chosen him to lead Zambia.

And Kambwili says President Hichilema does not love the poor, arguing that his government's policies favour the wealthy and foreigners rather than ordinary Zambians.

Speaking during a live broadcast on his page, Kambwili said God had already shown that Hichilema was not meant to govern the country by allowing him to lose five consecutive elections before eventually winning in 2021.

"God showed us that Hakainde Hichilema cannot govern Zambia well. How did He show us? He lost five elections. If a person loses elections five times, it only shows that God did not bless him to lead a country. God did not choose him to lead the country," Kambwili said.

He said Hichilema lost the presidential elections in 2006, 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2016 before eventually being elected in 2021.

"But what did Zambians do? Anyway, I don't blame Zambians. What was happening in the previous government is what led people into getting upset and deciding to try Hakainde Hichilema. But God rejected him five times," he said.

Kambwili asserted that the Bible contains examples where God allowed people to have leaders of their own choosing despite His reservations.

"You know how God is. If He has not decided that you be President, and the people force Him that that is the leader they want, even in the Bible there were leaders that God said, 'See for yourselves,' and we know what happened," he said.

He stressed that he does not hate President Hichilema and respects him as Zambia's Head of State, but argued that public dissatisfaction with the President stems from his own leadership.

"We do not hate Hakainde Hichilema. He is our President, and we respect him as President of the Republic of Zambia. People have turned against Hichilema because of his own actions," Kambwili said.

He accused the President of lacking compassion for struggling Zambians, saying a leader should prioritise the welfare of the poor.

"To run a country, you must love the people.
One must love the poor and have mercy on those who are suffering. But this man does not love the poor. He has no heart for the many suffering Zambians."

Kambwili said if President Hichilema genuinely cared about the poor, his government would have implemented policies aimed at improving their lives.

"If he had a heart for the poor, he would have had pro-poor policies. Instead, our friends have policies that support the rich and foreigners. That is why when you see people praising him for having worked hard and delivered, they are foreigners."

"When you go to foreign countries, they say Zambia has the best President. But when you come to Zambia, no one is seeing what he has done," he said.

Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance candidate Brian Mundubile has raised three concerns days before Zambians vote.

First, the ballot mark. ECZ has for years taught voters to use an X. Days before polling, Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said a tick would also be accepted, a shift that departs from the printed 2016 regulations, which specify only a cross. "Why introduce uncertainty only days before an election?" Mundubile asked, calling on ECZ to withdraw the change.

Second, results timing. ECZ's own timetable sets 17 August for declaring results, four days after voting. Mundubile argues that with mobile networks and digital transmission, Zambia should be able to verify and announce results within 24 hours. "Transparency must be immediate," he said.

Third, arrests. Mundubile pointed to what he called a pattern of arrests and detentions targeting political figures, media workers and content creators.

JUST IN: Angry Villagers Burn Vehicle for Parliamentary Candidate.

Angry villagers from Chieftainess Kawaza's area, in Sinda District, have burnt a vehicle, campaign materials and money belonging to Kapoche independent parliamentary candidate Stephen Miti on suspicion that the vehicle was being used for stock theft.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba said the vehicle is Ractic by make, Pearl/white in colour, Reg No.CAD 2547 valued at K120,000, two bales of Chitenge materials valued at K2,280 and cash money amounting to 3,850 bringing the total value of all items to K126,130.

Mr Mweemba said the incident occurred around 19:30 hours on Tuesday at Lemmy village.

He said the driver had parked the vehicle in the football pitch but was advised by some people to park in the village because could be mistaken for cattle rustler.

Mr Mweemba said shortly after parking the vehicle in the village, a group of people started looking for the owner of the vehicle accusing him that he was in the area to steal cattle.

He said the driver sensed danger and drove away but did not go far because the road was impassable prompting him to abandon it and ran away.

Mr Mweemba said when the candidate realized that his driver was taking long to link up with him, he called and that's how he was told about the ordeal.

He said when the candidate went to Lemmy village, he found that the vehicle was in flames.

Mr Mweemba said an inquiry file has been opened and investigation into the matter have been instituted.
