LFA is happy to share a rare book from our collection, now available for reading: “Ivan Leonidov” by Andrei Gozak & Andrei Leonidov [Academy Editions, 1988].

“Leonidov was the most radical architect of the Soviet avant-garde.”

This book is the first major Western monograph dedicated to Ivan Leonidov — one of the key figures of the Soviet architectural avant-garde. Published in 1988, the volume introduced Leonidov to an international audience through archival materials and graphic reconstructions, many created specifically for this edition and still unique today. These drawings shaped how Leonidov has been read, taught, and referenced ever since.

Long out of print, this book is now considered a bibliographic landmark and a foundational source for understanding utopian thinking in 20th-century architecture.

Այս գիրքը խորհրդային ճարտարապետական ավանգարդի հիմնական դեմքերից մեկին՝ Իվան Լեոնիդովին նվիրված արևմտյան առաջին խոշոր մենագրությունն է: 1988 թվականին հրատարակված հատորը ներկայացրեց Լեոնիդովին միջազգային լսարանին՝ օգտագործելով արխիվային նյութեր և գրաֆիկական վերականգնումներ, որոնց մեծ մասը ստեղծվել է հատուկ այս հրատարակության համար և մինչ օրս եզակի է: Այս նկարազարդումները ձևավորեցին այն, թե ինչպես է ընթերցվել, դասավանդվել և հղում կատարվել Լեոնիդովին հետագա տարիներին:

On Thursday, June 4 at 19:00, as part of “12 Months,” Narbeh Bedrossian , co-founder of , will present and introduce the month’s theme, “Values and Belongings.”
•
Who defines value, and who has the authority to assign meaning, ownership, or belonging to cultural heritage? These questions become especially complex in historical environments, where preservation, transformation, and contemporary use often intersect and conflict.
This program brings together two perspectives: one reflecting on Armenian heritage beyond national borders, and another exploring the challenges of engaging with such heritage today. Together, they open a conversation about how inherited environments are read, interpreted, and continuously redefined, questioning whether preservation is an act of protection, transformation, or reinterpretation.

Ո՞վ է սահմանում արժեհամակարգը, և ո՞վ ունի մշակութային ժառանգությանը իմաստ, պատկանելություն կամ սեփականություն վերագրելու իրավունք։ Այս հարցերը հատկապես բարդ են պատմական միջավայրերի դեպքում, որտեղ պահպանությունը, վերափոխումն ու ժամանակակից կիրառությունը հաճախ խաչվում և հակասում են միմյանց։
Այս ծրագիրը միավորում է երկու մոտեցում՝ մեկը անդրադառնում է Հայաստանի սահմաններից դուրս գտնվող հայկական ժառանգությանը, իսկ մյուսը՝ այդ ժառանգության հետ աշխատելու այսօրվա մարտահրավերներին։ Միասին դրանք առաջացնում են քննարկում այն մասին, թե ինչպես ենք կարդում, մեկնաբանում և շարունակաբար վերաիմաստավորում ժառանգված միջավայրերը՝ հարցադրելով, արդյոք պահպանությունը պաշտպանության, վերափոխման, թե վերաիմաստավորման գործընթաց է։

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Bosco Verticale, this book traces the history of a building that has become a symbol of Milan. Developed by Stefano Boeri in 2004, Bosco Verticale anticipated a new model of urban living and, ten years after its inauguration, is celebrated in a publication that documents its evolution as a “living” building through essays, drawings, and photographs structured like a tree.

Բոսկո Վերտիկալեի 10-ամյակի կապակցությամբ այս հրատարակությունը հետազոտում է մի շենքի պատմական զարգացման ընթացքը, որը դարձել է Միլանի խորհրդանշական ճարտարապետական կառույցներից մեկը։ Ստեֆանո Բոերիի կողմից 2004 թվականին մշակված Բոսկո Վերտիկալե նախագիծը կանխատեսում էր քաղաքային բնակության նոր մոդել՝ առաջարկելով ճարտարապետության և էկոլոգիայի ինտեգրման առաջադեմ մոտեցում։ Շենքի բացումից տասը տարի անց այն ներկայացվում է այս հրատարակության մեջ, որը փաստագրում է դրա էվոլյուցիան որպես «կենդանի» օրգանիզմ՝ թե՛ կառուցվածքային, թե՛ գաղափարական մակարդակներում։ Գիրքը ներառում է էսսեներ, ճարտարապետական գծագրեր և լուսանկարչական նյութեր, որոնք միասին ձևավորում են մի ամբողջական կառուցվածք՝ կազմակերպված ծառի տրամաբանությամբ։

The selected book is “The Armenian Churches of Iran” by Sherly Avedian.

Today, 123 Armenian churches remain standing in Iran. These structures reflect not only religious heritage, but also a broader narrative of cultural endurance and transformation. The research and documentation on this architectural legacy have been brought together in this book, offering a comprehensive reading of its place within both regional and global cultural history.
•
During the presentation and discussion on the book and the preservation of Armenian churches in Iran, the author will share insights into their historical significance, architectural value, and their place within the broader discourse of world heritage.

On Friday, May 22, at 19:00, LFA is pleased to host a lecture by Heghine Berkowitsch-Grigoryan and Elli Mosayebi titled ‘Performative Architecture: Anticipation and Reality.’
•
Heghine Berkowitsch-Grigoryan is an architect based in Zurich, originally from Yerevan. She studied architecture at NUACA and earned her MS in Advanced Urban Design from Columbia University’s GSAPP.
•
Elli Mosayebi is Associate Professor of Architecture and Design at ETH Zurich. She forges a close connection between practice, research and teaching. The architectural firm , which she co-founded, places particular emphasis on urban design and residential construction, for which it has won numerous awards.
•
By introducing a framework unique to Switzerland, through which buildings become visible prior to construction, Heghine Berkowitsch-Grigoryan will examine its performative role as a facilitator of public participation. Elli Mosayebi will then present some of the realized projects, exploring their performative qualities through spatial experience and human interaction.

Hello everyone! The fifth month [May] of the new season of “12 Months” explores the theme “Values and Belongings,” curated by Storaket Architectural Studio in collaboration with Sherly Avedian .

This month, the exploration and expression of the theme will unfold through a single book, “Armenian Churches of Iran” by Sherly Avedian, which you can read in our library throughout the month.
•
Sherly Avedian is an architect, cultural heritage researcher, and author whose journey bridges education, scholarship, and cross-cultural dialogue across countries.
•
The bilingual (Armenian, English) book-album presents the Armenian churches and monasteries located in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Ողջու՜յն բոլորին։ Նոր «12 ամիս» ծրագրի հինգերորդ ամսվա թեման է՝ «Արժեքներ և պատկանելություն», համադրողներ՝ «Ստորակետ» ճարտարապետական արվեստանոց և Շերլի Ավետյան :
