🕊️ As we approach Remembrance Day, many of us will pause to reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who have served our nation.

The Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs has developed a commemorative kitbag containing a range of resources to support your Remembrance Day activities and commemorations.

The kitbag contains commemorative posters, a suggested order of service, speeches, music, craft activities and veterans’ reflections.

The Anzac Portal also includes a newly released commemorative presentation which explores the meaning and history behind Remembrance Day.

Remembrance Day on 11 November is a time to recognise and remember those who have died or suffered in wars, conflicts and peace operations.

📣 Volunteer for Anzac Day services abroad!

Veterans and their family members can volunteer as representatives at DVA-led overseas Anzac Day services in 2027.

Expressions of interest are open until Sunday 8 November 2026.

Expressions of interest are now open for veterans and family members of veterans who would like to volunteer as representatives at overseas Anzac Day services held by DVA in 2027.

We welcome applications from people of diverse backgrounds, experiences and service histories.

Megan Banton was a volunteer at the Anzac Day service in Villers-Bretonneux, France, and shared the following about her experience:

"Volunteering at Villers-Bretonneux gave me a completely new appreciation for the impact of Australian service overseas. Being part of the team delivering these commemorations allowed me to contribute in a way that felt both meaningful and deeply personal. It reinforced the importance of preserving these stories for future generations."

If you would like to volunteer as a representative and assist DVA with commemorations in Gallipoli, Villers-Bretonneux, Sandakan, Hellfire Pass, Isurava or Singapore, applications for 2027 close on 8 November 2026.

💙 A special day of connection and commemoration in the Riverland.

The Veterans SA team had a great one-day trip to Berri, where they attended the Riverland War Widows Day Commemoration and spent time connecting with veterans, community members and local organisations.

The event recognised the strength, service and sacrifice of war widows and the enduring contribution of veteran families.

Meeting David Langdon from the Riverland Vietnam Veterans Association and other local representatives was a highlight of the day. The team also visited the beautiful Riverland Vietnam War Veterans and Post World War Two memorial in Berri, and had some valuable conversations about future regional engagement.

Thank you to Riverland Vietnam Veterans, Legacy Riverland and Legacy Club of South Australia & Broken Hill for the warm welcome and for making the day so meaningful.

Today, we recognise and honour the strength, resilience and contribution of war widows and widowers.

We acknowledge that the impact of military service extends beyond those who serve, affecting loved ones who endure the lifelong impact of losing a spouse or partner through defence service.

First commemorated in South Australia in 2023, War Widows Day provides an opportunity to honour the invaluable contribution of war widows and widowers, while preserving the legacy of those they have lost.

🎁 The Veterans SA team recently attended the Edinburgh Formation Welfare Annual Christmas Treat - an event recognising the contributions of Australian Defence Force members, their families and those who support the RAAF Base Edinburgh community.

It was a great opportunity to connect with serving members and their families, hear about their experiences and acknowledge the important role they play in our community.

We also sponsored the petting zoo, helping to add a few extra smiles to the day for the children attending. 🐐

We look forward to continuing to support and connect with South Australia’s veteran and Defence community. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing the event together. 🤲

🕊️ Today marks the 25th anniversary of Australian service in Afghanistan (2001-2026).

We honour all Australians who served in Afghanistan and the Middle East Area of Operations in relation to Afghanistan, the families who supported them, and the coalition partners, including Afghan nationals, alongside whom Australians served.

We remember the Australians who lost their lives during, or as a result of, their service and acknowledge the lasting impacts of service on many veterans and their families.

Today and always, we recognise their service and sacrifice.
