Central Land Council The CLC is a Commonwealth corporate entity governed by 90 elected Aboriginal members There are 15 different Aboriginal language groups in Central Australia.

The roots of the CLC lie in the history of Aboriginal struggle for justice and our rights to our traditional land. The Land Rights Act gave Aboriginal people title to most of the Aboriginal reserve lands in the Northern Territory and gave the opportunity to claim other land not already owned, leased or being used by someone else. The Central Land Council region covers 771,747 square kilometres of

remote, rugged and often inaccessible areas. Due to the dispersed population and large geographical areas, CLC staff travel more than a million kilometres in their work every year. The CLC region is divided into nine regions based around these language groups. Today Aboriginal people make up 27 per cent of the Northern Territory's population with more than 24,000 Aboriginal people living in Central Australia. Aboriginal people own 49 percent of the land in the Northern Territory. The Central Land Council is a representative body promoting Aboriginal rights. It is a statutory authority under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976. It also has functions under the Native Title Act 1993 and the Pastoral Land Act 1992.

Rangers from across Central Australia came together for the Central Land Council's first ever Women's Ranger Camp. 🌱

A week of sharing culture, land management skills and support.

Women rangers play an important role in cultural and environmental conservation. They are key to protecting sacred women’s sites.

The rangers workshopped camera traps, sound-recording and data collection, and gave presentations about their year's work. They also enjoyed cultural and self-care activities such as carving clapping sticks, making bush medicine, yoga and karaoke. Doctors, dentists, lawyers and counsellors were also on site for advice and support.

The camp supports our goal of employing equal numbers of female and male rangers. We're close - 45 of our 104 rangers are women!

Our general manager Dr Josie Douglas was very brave for her diphtheria jab! 💉

Diphtheria is a bacterial infection that can cause serious illness in unvaccinated people.

It looks like skin sores, or a sore throat with trouble breathing, and can cause heart issues.

We have a diphtheria outbreak in the Northern Territory, so it's important to stay safe and healthy.

Vaccination is the best way to do this - diphtheria vaccinations and booster shots are free for children, pregnant women and Aboriginal people.

Stay safe - head to your local clinic or pharmacy for your free jab today!

Congress will be at the Anthelk-Ewlpaye (Charles Creek) Community Centre tomorrow to give free diphtheria vaccines. A nurse will be there from 10am to 1pm to help keep our community safe.

This vaccine has been safely used for many years and is part of childhood immunisations. Now, adults should get a booster every 5 years to stay protected.

Not sure if you need a booster? The nurse can check your records for you.

If you have a sore throat or skin sores, you might have diphtheria.

The diphtheria vaccine is safe and has been used for many years. Little ones get it as part of their childhood immunisations, and most adults have had it too.

Adults now need a booster every 5 years to stay protected.

Vaccinations help keep you and your family healthy. Ask at Congress when your next vaccination is due.

We recently held our first council meeting of the year at Woolanger (Gem Tree).

The council discussed:
• upgrades to homelands
• regular housing maintenance
• designing homes for a heating planet
• community control of remote health clinics
• changes to the remote rent system
• advocating for an increase to the Remote Area Allowance to help remote families with the cost of living
• the new national first nations representative body
• the federal government's inquiry into racism
• nominations for new Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority board members
• attacks on paramedics and other safety concerns in Mparntwe (Alice Springs)
• the upcoming census

The meeting was cut short by the tragic news of the loss of Kumanjayi Little Baby. We offer our sincerest condolences to the Granites, Rockman and White families.
