🎨 RAES Community Painting Projects Deliver Skills and Community Improvements Across Central Desert
Community facilities in Laramba, Wilora and Yuelamu have all received a fresh new look through the Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES) Community Painting Projects, while local participants gained valuable practical skills and work experience along the way.
In Laramba, five RAES participants worked alongside a qualified painter to repaint the Recreation Hall, learning practical painting and maintenance skills including masking and unmasking surfaces, installing drop sheets, roller techniques and gloss coating.
In Wilora, five local participants helped transform the RAES Centre with a complete interior and exterior repaint, gaining hands-on experience in surface preparation, painting techniques and safe work practices.
In Yuelamu, local jobseekers played a key role in revitalising the RAES Centre, working under the guidance of a qualified painter and building practical skills for future employment opportunities.
Workplace Health and Safety remained a priority across all projects, with participants provided with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety information to support a safe working environment.
💬 "The participants have expressed a strong interest in continuing to build on the skills they developed during the project. This experience has given them a foundation to pursue future opportunities and further develop their capabilities in painting and maintenance work," said Dion Temu, Program Manager - RAES.
These projects demonstrate the positive outcomes that come from investing in local skills, creating employment pathways and improving important community facilities.

🎉 Congratulations to 13 Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES) participants from Yuelamu, Laramba and Ti Tree who have successfully completed nationally recognised workplace safety training.
Participants completed White Card (General Construction Induction) and Work Safely at Heights training as part of the RAES Community Projects program, helping build the skills and qualifications needed to work safely on community infrastructure projects.
Participants in Yuelamu completed White Card training, while participants across Yuelamu, Laramba and Ti Tree also completed Work Safely at Heights training.
These training opportunities were delivered alongside community painting projects, giving participants the chance to gain practical experience while contributing to projects that benefit their communities.
💬 "Through our RAES Community Projects, participants have gained nationally recognised skills by completing White Card and Work Safely at Heights training while contributing to meaningful community painting projects. These activities have strengthened employability, built confidence, and delivered lasting benefits for the community," said Bikal Kharel, Regional Manager - RAES.
This initiative reflects Council's commitment to developing local skills, improving workplace safety and creating meaningful employment pathways through community-led projects.
