The Haughton River at Giru is currently at 1.13 m and falling, below the minor flood level. The Haughton River at Giru is expected to remain below the minor flood level (1.80 m). Further rises are possible with forecast rain.

The Burdekin Local Disaster Management Group advises people in Giru and Surrounding Communities to 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗢𝗥 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 for possible MINOR flooding of the Haughton River.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) advises that 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗢𝗥 flooding is possible along the Haughton River at Giru. The Haughton River at Giru is currently below the minor flood level and falling and may exceed the minor flood level (1.80 m) Sunday evening.

Further rises are possible with forecast rain.

In life threatening situations, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. For non-life-threatening flood and storm emergency assistance call the SES on 132 500 or download the SES Assistance QLD App.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) advises that the Burdekin River at Inkerman Bridge (Burdekin Bridge) is currently below the 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗢𝗥 flood level and rising, and may reach around the 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗢𝗥 flood level (7.00 m) Sunday evening.

Further rises are possible with forecast rain. The situation is being monitored, and this warning will be updated as required.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) advises that due to heavy rainfall across the Haughton catchment, the Haughton River at Giru is likely to exceed the 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗢𝗥 flood level (1.80 m) from late Saturday afternoon.

The river may reach around 2.00 m Saturday evening, with 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗢𝗥 flooding.

Further showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the remainder of Saturday and into Sunday which may cause further river level rises.

The Burdekin Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has transitioned back to ALERT activation following endorsement via a flying minute.

The Burdekin Dam and the Burdekin River at the Inkerman gauge remain in minor flood, are currently steady, and are expected to remain above minor flood levels through Thursday and Friday.
At this time no communities are isolated and no issues have been reported.

In line with current conditions, the Australian Warning System (AWS) message for the Burdekin Local Government Area has been downgraded to an “Advice – Stay Informed” message.

The Burdekin LDMG will continue to monitor conditions closely and will provide further updates to the community should the situation change.

Council is aware that water levels at the Anabranch Bridge on Rita Island are currently low.

However, due to safety concerns caused by large timber and debris moving through the area, it has been deemed unsafe to reopen the road at this time.

Council will continue to closely monitor conditions and provide further updates when it is safe to do so.

A live flood camera is available on the Anabranch Bridge to help you monitor current conditions and make informed safety decisions. 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 that floodwaters have now begun to encroach onto the bridge.

The Burdekin River at Inkerman Bridge is currently at 7.30m and rising. At this level there is currently no impact, however residents of Rita Island and Groper Creek are advised to monitor the river levels closely and ensure you are prepared should the situation change.

The Burdekin River at Inkerman Bridge may peak near 8.00 m during Wednesday, with minor flooding.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼:
• Find out how to get ready for a flood at the Get Ready Queensland website (Get Prepared).
• Never drive, walk, ride through, play or swim in flood water. If it’s flooded, forget it.
• Consider the consequences of road and bridge closures. Damage to roads, bridges or buildings caused by flooding and landslip may exist in your area. Consider the need to make alternate arrangements for work, children, and travel.
• Drive to conditions and remain alert. Be aware of road hazards including mud, debris, and water in low lying areas.
• Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.
• Tell friends, family, and neighbours in the area.

• Check the latest weather, warnings, rainfall, and river heights at the Bureau of Meteorology Queensland website.
• Check road closures at the QLD Traffic website or for phone service call 13 19 40.
