🌿 Learning Expedition – Connecting with Lake Bonney 🌿
Our Year 4–5 students experienced a very special part of their Learning Expedition this week with Mr Fletcher and Mr Pearce, as they explored the cultural significance of Barmera Lake / Lake Bonney.
We were privileged to welcome Chris (Mullet) Koolmatrie from Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board and Amber Giles from RMMAC ( River Murray and Mallee Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC), who generously shared their knowledge, personal stories and connections to the lake with our students.
The students were captivated as they listened to stories about the lake and developed a deeper understanding of its significance to Aboriginal people. Learning directly from Chris and Amber gave students an opportunity to see that understanding a place involves much more than studying its water, plants, animals and environment — it also means understanding its people, stories, culture and history.
This was a real highlight of our Learning Expedition and an experience that will help shape the students' learning as they continue investigating Lake Bonney.
A huge thank you to Chris and Amber for giving their time and sharing their stories and knowledge with our students. Experiences like this make learning meaningful, authentic and connected to the place we call home.
