Today marks Danny King’s final day as Deputy Group Captain after three years in the role. πŸš’

Danny, thank you for the leadership, dedication, and steady hand you’ve brought to the position. Group 2 is better for your service.

Beyond the role itself, Danny has been a mentor to countless firefighters coming up through the ranks. He’s the bloke who’ll always make time, share what he knows, and back you in whether you’re new on the truck or stepping into a leadership role yourself. That kind of generosity shapes a brigade for the long haul. πŸ™

The good news: Danny isn’t going anywhere. He’ll continue to serve with us at Braidwood, where he’s already clocked up more than half a century as a volunteer firefighter. Fifty years on the trucks is an extraordinary contribution that few will ever match.

From all of us at Braidwood: thank you, Danny. We’re lucky to still have you alongside us. 🧑

πŸš’ We are all set up at the Braidwood Show today and ready to go.

Come down and say hello to the crew, check out our trucks and gear, grab a showbag, and see what your local brigade is all about.

We have also brought along our smoke house for the kids - a great hands-on way to learn about fire safety in a fun and interactive way πŸ”₯🏠

We would love to see you there, so come by and say hello πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸ‘©β€πŸš’

πŸ‘•πŸš’ New Uniform Trial - We’re Taking Part! πŸš’πŸ‘•

You may notice something a little different at the station and out at training - our brigade is proud to be participating in the state-wide NSW RFS new uniform trial. βœ…

This trial is all about testing new uniform designs and features in real-world brigade conditions, so we can provide practical feedback on things like:
🧡 comfort and fit
🌦️ durability in all weather
🦺 visibility and practicality on the job
πŸŽ’ how it works with our PPE and equipment

We’ll be wearing the trial uniforms during approved activities and sharing feedback to help shape what works best for volunteers across the state. πŸ’ͺπŸ‘©β€πŸš’πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’

Thanks for your continued support β€” we’ll keep you posted as the trial progresses! πŸ™Œ

πŸ”₯πŸš’ Training hard to keep our community safe πŸš’πŸ”₯

This week our brigade has been sharpening our skills in breathing apparatus (BA) and structural firefighting. πŸ’ͺ😷

From improving air management and team communication to practising safe entry, search techniques, and fire behaviour awareness - every drill helps us work smarter, faster, and safer when it matters most.

These skills mean we’re better prepared to protect lives, property, and each other - and to respond with confidence when our community needs us. 🀝❀️

Thanks for your ongoing support! If you see us training, know it’s all part of staying ready. βœ…πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸ‘©β€πŸš’

Today (Saturday 31 January) we will be conducting training at the fire station using a smoke machine. Locals may see or smell smoke in the area – this is a planned training activity only and there is no cause for concern. We thank the community for their understanding and ongoing support.

Braidwood Brigade crews responded to the call to the Mayfield fire on Saturday evening 10 January, with the catering crew, part of our Support Team, also springing into action.

Trained in bushfire fighting AND food safety supervision, this crew was called upon by Lake George Fire Control and produced their own version of the loaves and fishes miracle.

Within two hours, sourcing from local pantries and freezers, (as the local supermarket had already closed), they had prepared hot meals for 130. They then packed everything into the RFS bus that lives at our station and delivered meals to the fireground.

Led by Amy Kindrachuk, the team continued to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner to hungry firefighters on site over the following two days.

An outstanding effort from this amazing volunteer team, earning praise and thanks from those on the fireground and from Fire Control.

We would like to thank Braidwood Central School for providing access to their commercial kitchen facilities, and the following local businesses for their support: Vanilla, Troopers Rest, Braidwood Bakery, Braidwood Butcher, Braidwood IGA, Oscar's Donuts, Me&Moo, and Braidwood Ex Servicemen’s Club.

We’re so thankful for individuals and organisations like these who continually go above and beyond for our community.

Braidwood and our local area will be heading into an elevated bush fire risk period of the next couple of days. There are currently no bush fires burning in our local area. Smoke is currently visible in the west and south from the significant bush fires in Victoria.

For Friday 9 January the Fire Danger Rating is HIGH. This means you should be ready to act - be alert for fires in your local area and decide now what you will do if a fire starts.

For Saturday 10 January the Fire Danger Rating is EXTREME. This means you should take action to protect your life and property - check your bush fire plan and ensure your property is fire ready, and if a fire should start take action immediately.

Please take Friday to finish your preparations: clear leaves and fine fuels from around your homes, make sure that hoses and pumps work, move combustible items away from buildings, and talk through your bush fire plan with everyone on your household. If a fire starts nearby, leaving a bush fire risk area is the safest option.

All fire permits remain suspended until midnight on Sunday 11 January.

Updates, alerts and advice is available from the Hazards Near Me app (https://www.nsw.gov.au/emergency/hazards-near-me-app) or direct from the RFS website (https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fires-near-me).

Today we wrapped up the Braidwood Central School Cadets program, and what a fantastic week it has been.

A huge congratulations to all the students who took part in the cadets program. You showed commitment, teamwork and a willingness to learn that made all of us in the brigade incredibly proud. You are the firefighters of the future, and it is encouraging to see such capable young people stepping up, building skills and learning what it means to serve their community.

Thank you as well to the volunteers who gave their time throughout the week to make the program possible. From instructing and mentoring, to organising equipment and catering, to simply being there to support the cadets: your effort and dedication are what make programs like this work, and your example is a powerful one for the next generation.

Well done BCS Cadets – we hope to see some of you in yellow again soon! πŸ”₯πŸš’πŸ§‘β€πŸš’
