🔥 PLANNED BURNS – BREDBO AREA

A local landholder will be carrying out planned burns around the southern side of the village and surrounding outskirts this evening

You may notice smoke or a red glow in the area while the burns are underway. These burns are planned and conditions are being monitored.

Please continue to stay aware of conditions, and as always, if you see an unattended fire or have concerns, call 000.

🔥 PLANNED BURNS – BILLINGRA AREA

Planned burning will be continuing in the Billingra area this afternoon and into the evening.

Residents and motorists may notice smoke, flames and a red glow in the area as a number of large patches of lovegrass are burnt.

As we’ve seen with the previous burns, the lovegrass can put on quite a show once it gets going 🔥

Please be aware this is planned burning activity.

🔥 PLANNED BURNS – BILLINGRA AREA

A local landholder will be undertaking planned burns on their property in the Billingra area, starting tonight and continuing over the next few weeks while conditions are suitable.

The burns will involve a number of large patches of lovegrass, which can produce quite an impressive flame and smoke column when burning.

Residents and motorists may notice smoke and fire activity to the south and west of Bredbo at various times, particularly during the evenings.

Please be aware that this is planned burning activity and may continue on suitable days and nights over the coming weeks.

Sunday, 2 August 2026 @ 1100hrs Snowy Monaro Rural Fire Service Bredbo Rural Fire Brigade will implement a strategic hazard reduction in Bredbo.
As the prescribed burn will generate smoke, hot embers and heat, it is important that you consider the
following:
• Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes;
• Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns;
• Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage;
• Remove washing from clotheslines;
• Ensure pets have a protected area;
• If you are driving a vehicle, slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on; and
• If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high and if
shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice.

Today, Monday 27 July 2026, the AusAlert system will be tested across Australia, with an alert being sent to all compatible mobile devices within NSW at 2pm.

If your device receives the AusAlert national test, it will vibrate and make a loud siren-like sound for about 10 seconds before stopping, even if your device is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’.

Emergency services are currently attending a single vehicle accident on the Monaro Highway approaching Colyers Road, north of Bredbo.

Both directions of traffic may be affected. Please slow down, drive to the conditions, and take extra care around emergency crews and volunteers working on scene. 🚒🚑

A reminder that even on familiar roads, accidents can happen in an instant. Stay alert, leave plenty of space, and travel safely. 💛

✅ UPDATE – Highway Reopened ✅

The highway at the Cooma end of the village is now fully open.

Thank you to everyone for your patience while emergency services worked on scene. Please continue to drive to the conditions and take care on the roads tonight.
