🚨 Motor Vehicle Collision – Barker Street, Casino 🚨

At approximately 10:00am today, emergency services were activated to reports of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Barker Street and West Street, Casino, with initial reports indicating a person was trapped.

VRA Rescue NSW Casino operators were first on scene and located a collision involving two vehicles, with one occupant remaining inside their vehicle. Our rescue crews immediately assessed both drivers and provided assistance while awaiting the arrival of other emergency services.

Both drivers were assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics, with one person requiring further medical treatment.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews assisted by establishing a hose line as a precaution while one driver remained seated in their vehicle and later undertook the clean-up of oil, fuel and debris from the roadway.

We would also like to thank the Richmond Valley Council staff who were working nearby and promptly assisted with traffic control around the incident until additional resources arrived.

A great example of agencies and community members working together to ensure a safe outcome for all involved.

🎉 What an Incredible Day! 🚒

A huge thank you to the hundreds of people who stopped by our display in Barker Street to chat with our Rescue Operators, learn more about VRA Rescue NSW, and check out our new Heavy Rescue Truck.

We were absolutely blown away by the support from the community. In fact, the response was so overwhelming that we completely ran out of our PR giveaways! 😲

It was fantastic to meet so many locals and visitors, answer your questions, and share a little about the work our volunteers do to keep our communities safe.

We would also like to thank everyone who lined the streets and gave us a wave, a smile, or a kind comment as we took part in the Brenda Armfield Street Parade. Your encouragement means a great deal to our volunteers and helps recognise the dedication of emergency service personnel across our region.

Thank you, Casino, for making us feel so welcome. We are proud to serve this amazing community.

🥓 Breakfast with the Butchers – What a Morning! 🥩

Today the streets of Casino came alive as the entire CBD was transformed into one giant community breakfast for thousands of locals and visitors at the annual Breakfast with the Butchers event.

The volunteers from VRA Rescue NSW – Casino Rescue Squad were proud to be part of the action, cooking hundreds of sausages and steaks throughout the morning. The demand was incredible, and at times we struggled to keep up, but thanks to the hard work of our dedicated members, we managed to keep the BBQs firing right through until the end.

Thanks also to the Casino SES for joining us and serving the locals.

It was fantastic to see so many people out and about, catching up with friends, supporting local businesses, and enjoying a great breakfast together. Events like this showcase the strong community spirit that makes Casino such a great place to live.

🚒 Don’t forget to visit us tomorrow!
You can find our team near the Cecil end of Barker Street, where we’ll have our new Heavy Rescue Truck on display, along with some giveaways and information about the work we do across our community.

🚨 INCIDENT RESPONSE 🚨

At approximately 9:30pm tonight, VRA Rescue NSW – Casino Squad was activated by NSW Police to assist with a tree down blocking Naughtons Gap Road at Naughtons Gap.

Prior to our arrival, our friends at NSW RFS had already responded with a crew on scene and were more than capable of safely removing the tree from the roadway. Our crew was subsequently stood down and returned to station.

⚠️ With the ongoing wet weather and rain across the region, many trees and branches are unstable and may fall without warning, particularly along roadsides.

If you encounter a life-threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000).

For non-urgent storm and fallen tree assistance, contact:🌧️ NSW SES – 132 500🏛️ Or your local council where appropriate.

Please drive to the conditions and remain vigilant while travelling.

⚠️ WET WEATHER ALERT – REGION NORTH ⚠️

Widespread rainfall is currently impacting many areas across the region, with several rivers and locations now under Flood Watch.

While wet weather is expected at this time of year, heavy localised downpours and sudden rain bomb activity may cause rapid flash flooding with little warning.

🚗 Please take extra care on the roads and NEVER drive through floodwater.
🌧️ Conditions can change quickly, particularly overnight and during heavy rainfall periods.
⚡ Stay informed by monitoring Bureau of Meteorology warnings and emergency service advice.

Remember:
✅ If it’s flooded, forget it.
✅ Avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.
✅ Secure loose items around your property.
✅ Check on vulnerable family members, neighbours and friends.

📞 For life-threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000).
📞 For assistance with leaking roofs, storm damage or sandbag requests, contact the NSW SES on 131 500.

Our volunteers and emergency services crews are monitoring conditions and remain ready to respond where required.

Stay safe everyone.

💚 NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK 2026 💚. “Your Year to Volunteer”

See Yourself in Green.

This National Volunteer Week, we proudly recognise the extraordinary men and women of VRA Rescue NSW - Region North who selflessly serve our communities.

Behind every rescue, every flood response, every road crash rescue, every search operation and every training night are volunteers who continually put others before themselves. They sacrifice time with family, missed birthdays, interrupted holidays, sleepless nights and countless personal commitments, all to answer the call when their community needs them most.

Our volunteers are ordinary people doing extraordinary things. They stand ready in times of crisis, support their communities through disaster and emergency, and provide reassurance when people are experiencing some of the worst moments of their lives.

But volunteering is never done alone.

Behind every volunteer is a network of support — partners, children, parents, employers, families and friends whose understanding, patience and encouragement make this commitment possible. To those who share the sacrifice alongside our members, we thank you. Your support is the foundation that keeps our volunteers operational and our communities safer.

Wearing the green shirt represents far more than a uniform. It represents courage, commitment, teamwork, compassion and an unwavering dedication to helping others.

Today, and every day, we thank every VRA Rescue NSW volunteer across our region for the professionalism, resilience and heart they bring to their communities.

If you’ve ever considered making a genuine difference in your community, perhaps this is your year to volunteer… perhaps it’s time to see yourself in green.
