🐰🥚 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆’𝘀 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗴𝗴 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀!

Held just before Easter, the library was filled with excited children and their carers, all on the hunt for paper Easter eggs hidden amongst the picture books. Once found, the eggs were proudly brought to the counter and swapped for a big chocolate egg from the Bunny’s helpers 🍫✨

A big thank you to all the carers who joined us — wrangling eager little chocoholics and helping with the hunt! We hope the kids weren't too hyped up (sorry, not sorry!) We loved seeing so many smiling faces and can’t wait to do it all again next year.

𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 – 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆

During Seniors Week, Council hosted a “Seniors Star Trek” excursion, taking a busload of local seniors on a trip to Siding Spring Observatory.

The group travelled via the scenic Box Ridge Road, offering many passengers the chance to enjoy some new and picturesque countryside along the way. Travelling in comfort, the group arrived at the Siding Spring Visitor Information Centre with time to explore the interactive displays prior to the guided tour.

The exhibits proved a highlight, with participants comparing how much a litre of milk weighs on different planets and even checking their own weight across the solar system — a fun and engaging way to experience science firsthand.

The guided tour, led by the knowledgeable and approachable Branioc, took the group to the summit of the mountain, passing more than 20 observatories operated by universities and international organisations. Along the way, participants learned about the history of the site, including stories of the famed Barefoot Bushwalker, Dot Butler, and enjoyed spectacular views across the Warrumbungles.

Following lunch at the Visitor Information Centre, the group continued on to the main observatory for an inside tour. Guests were given the opportunity to see the telescope up close, with some even venturing onto the surrounding catwalk. A particularly fascinating moment was seeing how images of the sun appear before being interpreted by astronomers and computers — more like a colourful grid than the images we typically expect.

We finished the afternoon off with a quick pit stop at the Warrumbungle Visitor Information Centre for an ice cream.

Council extends its sincere thanks to Branioc for an informative and engaging experience, as well as the staff at the Visitor Information Centre for their hospitality. Appreciation is also extended to all attendees for making the day so enjoyable.

This excursion was made possible through funding from the NSW Government Department of Communities and Justice Seniors Festival grant program, and without this support, the event would not have been possible.
