Tropics Early Learning Where little minds learn & thrive 🌿
Play based early learning from 6 weeks to 5 years

📍 Malak, Darwin NT

Tropics Early Learning is a not-for-profit, community-run long day care centre based in the northern suburbs of Malak. We care for up to 90 children between 6 weeks and 5 years daily. We are open Monday to Friday 7:00am-6.00pm. Our centre is a warm and inviting and we work in partnership with our families to ensure the best outcomes for all children. The service uses the Early Years Learning frame

work (EYLF) to implement individual programs for each child. We have a range of engaging indoor and outdoor spaces to allow children to explore and learn in their own space at their own pace and time. WE LOVE PLAY!! Children should be taught how to think, not what to think and through play they gain the skills to explore, investigate, research, create and imagine! The children learn their capabilities through risk taking and also gain confidence in their environment. Our role as educators is to scaffold this learning, planning for development and providing guidance for the children. We believe in respecting our environment and that embedding sustainable practices will foster a generation who will respect and care for their world around them.

Ever wondered why your toddler wants to do the same activity again… and again… and again? 😅

Repetition is actually a really important part of toddler learning.
Each time children repeat an experience, they’re practising skills, strengthening their understanding and becoming a little more confident in what they can do.

The first time might be about figuring it out, the next might be about doing it differently and eventually comes that very proud “I did it!” moment. 🤍

So when your toddler asks for the same book, builds the same tower or fills and empties the same container for what feels like the hundredth time, there’s plenty of learning happening underneath it all.

At Tropics, we give children the time and space to explore, repeat and master new skills at their own pace. 🌿

When play mirrors real life 🤍

Children are always watching, noticing and taking in the world around them and often, we see that come to life through their play.

Caring for a doll, settling them to sleep, feeding them or making sure they’re okay might look like a simple game, but these moments can help children build empathy, strengthen communication, explore relationships and make sense of familiar routines.

Pretend play gives children a safe space to copy what they see, use their imagination and practise caring for others in their own little way. 🌿

Our Book Fair fun is continuing at Tropics! 📚✨

Today, the children visited our Book Fair corner, browsing the display, exploring the pictures and choosing the stories that caught their interest.

Along the way, they practised making their own choices, sharing their thoughts, taking turns and handling the books with care all while building a love of reading. 💛

Nature is one of our favourite teachers. 🌿

Sometimes all it takes is a few leaves, some paint and curious little hands. By combining natural materials with creative play, children are encouraged to explore different textures, colours and patterns while developing their imagination and confidence to create something uniquely their own.

At Tropics, we love creating opportunities for children to connect with nature through meaningful, hands on experiences. 🤍

Beyond the Play | Little Hands, Big Learning 🤍

It might look like they’re simply reaching for a ball… but there’s so much happening in this little moment.

As our babies reach, grasp, push and follow the movement of the balls, they’re building hand eye coordination, strengthening fine motor skills and beginning to explore cause and effect.

Every little movement is helping them learn more about their bodies, their environment and what happens when they interact with the world around them. 🌿

At Tropics, we love creating simple, meaningful experiences that give our youngest learners the freedom to explore, discover and learn at their own pace.

💇‍♀️✨ There's so much more happening than just playing hairdressers.
When children step into different roles through imaginative play, they're developing skills they'll use for life. From brushing a doll's hair to chatting with their "client", they're building confidence, strengthening communication, practising empathy and learning to care for others.

Role play gives children the opportunity to make sense of the world around them in a way that feels fun, meaningful and engaging.
At Tropics Early Learning, we value these everyday moments because they help lay the foundations for lifelong learning. 💚
