πŸš’ Busy Start to the Year at 284 Station Delroy! πŸš’

January certainly kept us on our toes, with 44 incidents attended across the month - more than double the number than our typical January’s from the past few years!

From routine calls to more complex jobs, and several incidents requiring multi-day commitments, highlighting the dedication and resilience of our crews who continued to respond whenever the call came in.

A huge thank you to all our firefighters for the time, effort, and professionalism shown throughout a very busy start to the year β€” and to our families and employers who support us behind the scenes.

πŸŽ‰ Happy Birthday, Captain Wilson! πŸŽ‰
We also took the opportunity at drill last night to wish Captain Wilson a very happy birthday. A well-earned celebration for a leader who gives so much to the station and our community.

Here’s to a safe and successful rest of the year ahead πŸš’πŸ’ͺ

Today, we honour the lives lost and all those impacted by the Bondi Beach terrorist attack. As a mark of respect, station flags will be flown at half-mast on Thursday 22 January for the National Day of Mourning.

At 7.01pm AEDT, we encourage our community to pause for one minute of silence, reflecting together on loss, compassion, and unity.

IMPORTANT!!!

Our crews are currently on-site, extinguishing some hotspots from yesterdays fire near Sir Roden Cutler Park

The attached map shows the section of the Tracker Riley Shared Pathway that has been temporarily closed.

Members of the public are being urged to stay away from the area, on the western side of the river as the fire continues to smoulder in large gum trees alongside the pathway, creating a risk of falling debris. THIS IS FOR YOUR SAFETY.

The Tracker Riley Shared Pathway is closed at:
- The Yabang Gee Bridge at the end of Tamworth Street,
- The Newell Highway
- The footbridge at Sir Roden Cutler Park.

For public safety reasons, the area is expected to remain closed for several days while the risk posed by fire-damaged and unstable trees is assessed and mitigated.
Dubbo Regional Council will advise when the section of the shared pathway will reopen.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as public safety is prioritised at this site.

At 3:30pm, the Tanker from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 284 Delroy was responded to assist Fire and Rescue NSW Station 280 Dubbo with a grass fire burning on the western side of the Macquarie river. With high temperatures and winds, additional resources from the NSW RFS Orana Team, including aviation assets were called in to contain the rapid spread. Firefighting crews were supported by Orana Mid-Western Police District, NSW Ambulance, and staff from Taronga Western Plains Zoo, with the rehabilitation van from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 312 Gulgong attending to provide welfare to crews.

Excellent work by all resulted in the fire being contained, with some impressive work by the 284 Delroy crew, being the first arriving off-road truck, and having to manage a large section of fire with minimal resources to start with.

πŸš’ A busy start to 2026 πŸš’

At 12:01 and 5 seconds, just after midnight, crews from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 284 Delroy and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 280 Dubbo were alerted to a House Fire in West Dubbo. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and ventilated the property to remove smoke. This incident marked the first fire attended in NSW for 2026, with an incident number of 1.

At approximately 3:30pm, crews were alerted to a Grass Fire on North Burrabadine Rd, west of Dubbo. Enroute, our crew saw a large column of smoke, and quickly called for further resources. On arrival, our crew undertook property protection, and were faced with thick smoke and approximately 8 metre high flames. With the assistance of NSW RFS - Dubbo Brigade and Burrabadine Rural Fire Brigade, the fire was brought under control.

A strong reminder of how quickly emergencies can escalate β€” and the importance of teamwork across agencies to keep our community safe. πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸš’
