📸 Your most important photo

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this year’s message is about making sure you’re around for all the photos that matter most. 💗

Regular mammograms are the best way to detect breast cancer early for women aged 50–74, helping you get back to making memories sooner. Women aged 40 and over are also eligible for screening.

The BreastScreen WA bus is currently in Geraldton until 12 January 2027, making it easier to put your health on the calendar.

Because the most important photo isn’t necessarily the one you’re taking today — it’s all the ones still to come. 💗📸

📖🐾 A very engaged audience at storytime this morning!

We headed down to Rocks Lane Way this morning for the Reading to Dogs event with Geraldton Dog Rescue, where we shared our Keeping Kids Safe in Geraldton storybook. Safe to say, our new furry friend was all ears! 👀🐶📚

The Keeping Kids Safe in Geraldton storybook is dedicated to all the amazing kids (and the adults who were once kids!) growing up in Geraldton and Mullewa.

Pop into Desert Blue Connect to grab your free copy to read with your kids… or your fur babies! 📚💙

A huge thank you to Community Bank Geraldton for raising more than $500 through their recent show raffles and donating the funds to Desert Blue Connect 💜
And thank you to everyone in our community who supported the raffles and helped make this donation possible. We’re so grateful for your generosity and support of the work we do. 💜

Proudly supporting Desert Blue Connect! 💜🤝

We are so proud to partner with Desert Blue Connect to support mental health services and raise vital funds for our local Geraldton community.

Following our recent show raffles, we were delighted to hand over more than $500 raised directly by our wonderful community. 🎟️💙

Every day, their team provides essential care, safety, and support to families across the Mid West. We are honoured to help ensure these life-changing resources remain available to those who need them most.

Last week we had Yamatji man and Naaguja Elder Derek Councillor and his daughter Amelia perform a Smoking Ceremony across each of our Desert Blue Connect premises in Geraldton.
Our work at Desert Blue Connect holds many stories, emotions and experiences. The ceremony was an opportunity to respectfully acknowledge the people we support, the work our staff do, and the weight that can come with it. Led in accordance with local cultural knowledge and practice, the smoking ceremony provided a moment for cleansing, healing, protection and renewal, while recognising the Yamaji Country and culture that surrounds us.

Thank you, Derek and Amelia, for sharing your knowledge and time with our team.

A huge thank you to Rigters IGA Community Chest for their incredibly generous $3,000 donation to support our Desert Blue Connect Men's Community Intervention Service (MCIS) 💙
Our Men’s Service works alongside men who are ready to take responsibility, make positive changes and build healthier relationships. This includes supporting men to address harmful behaviours, while also working through challenges such as parenting, mental health, trauma and relationships.
Support from local businesses helps the MCIS Team to continue this important work and contribute to safer, healthier families and communities. We’re incredibly grateful for your support!

From the DBC team attending the Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing conference, hosting a Women’s Health Week staff morning tea, hosting the Shine students for an Amazing Race style scavenger hunt, our Fabulous Hot Flushes and Helpful Conversations perimenopause session and then finishing the week off with a pop-up stall at the Spanks and the city comedy show - What a week it has been!

Throughout the week, we focused on this year's theme of "Do it Anyway", here is a recap of each day:

Monday - To fuel 🍉
Practical nutrition tips and realistic food habits to help you feel your best.

A fresh take on movement that’s practical, inclusive and designed for real life.
Wednesday - To rest 😴
Exploring the power of sleep, downtime and giving yourself permission to rest.
Thursday - To breathe 💨
Honest conversations and practical support for women’s mental wellbeing.
Friday - To connect 💬

Celebrating the small steps that help build meaningful connection and community.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, came along, shared, chatted and connected with us this week.

💛 It is R U OK? Any day today, and to show our support some of our team are wearing yellow and we took time to pause, connect and check in with one another over cupcakes at morning tea 🧁💛

R U OK? Day is a reminder that checking in doesn’t need to be complicated. It can be as simple as asking, listening and making time for the people around us - today and any day. U OK?
