Heaters need space…

A lot of it..

Keep curtains, bedding, lounges, throws and drying racks at
least one metre away.

Switch them off before you leave the room or go to bed.

Never use outdoor heaters indoors.

Monitor conditions before you burn- high winds can easily lead to an escaped pile burn.

Do the right thing — notify before you burn:

Last week, Huskisson Brigade held their Annual General Meeting (AGM), recognising member achievements and electing both operational and administrative positions for the year ahead!

This year our Senior Deputy Captain Joey, was awarded a clasp to his long service medal for 20 years of service to the NSW Rural Fire Service- congratulations Joey 🔥

Firefighter Toby was awarded the new member of the year award, for his contribution to brigade activities and operations- showing a great commitment to the brigade and his peers.

Firefighter Richard was then awarded the yearly, ‘outstanding contribution’ award for his willingness to contribute whatever necessary, whenever!

The morning was a great time for members to catch up with each other, enjoy some food and remember the year behind.

Congratulations to those who received an award and to those who have been elected into positions this year- and most importantly, thank you to everyone who has made a contribution to our brigade in the last year 👩‍🚒

On Friday, Huskisson Brigade along with Kangaroo Valley Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade, NSW RFS - Vincentia Brigade, NSW RFS - Wandandian, Falls Creek NSW RFS, NOWRA Mitigation Team, Bay RFS and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service undertook the James Farmer hazard reduction in Woollamia 🔥

Crews had a successful day, burning a significant portion of the burn to completion - with there being a final shape to complete at a later date. The current burn area has been patrolled regularly to ensure extinguishment.

This HR is one of many in both our area and across the state- it’s a part of a larger push across NSW to undertake critical hazard reduction burns while the conditions are right‼️

UNAUTHORISED ENTRY TO OUR FIRE STATION

At 1129am this morning a male wearing a fluro orange adidas shirt with white stripes on the shoulders, a gold chain necklace, black track pants, white adidas runners with orange stripes (adidas Adizero SL2 running shoes) a bracelet on his right wrist and watch on the left entered our fire station via the rear door and left 8 minutes later carrying an item of equipment.

Yes we have very clear footage and sound and yes we’ll make a police report - however we’ll give you the opportunity to return the item to our back door tomorrow.

We’re sure you made an error of judgement taking from an emergency service, and a volunteer one to boot!

Please share our post in the hope that this person gains a conscience.

Today on ANZAC day, we pause to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice Australian and New Zealand troops made on the 25th of April, 1915.

Firefighters Richard and Axl laid a wreath on behalf of the Brigade at the Huskisson ANZAC service- alongside various other local groups, emergency services and community members.

Thank you to the Huskisson RSL sub-Branch for the respectful and memorable ceremony.

Last night, Huskisson Brigade undertook structural fire drills with a focus on setting up for a Breathing Apparatus team to enter 👩‍🚒

With a simulated building fire in front of them, crews rotated around- setting up attack and supply hoses to allow the donning structural operators to walk straight to their hose and enter 🔥

After completing the drills, Firefighters familiarised themselves with our 65mm ground monitor- using it to simulate large fire attack.

Today, firefighters from Huskisson Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade, Falls Creek NSW RFS and NSW Rural Fire Service Basin View Brigade assisted Forestry Corporation NSW with a Hazard Reduction in Tomerong!

After a full day of burning yesterday, the crew was tasked to tie in the remainder of the burn 🔥

After the final stage of the HR had been completed, crews assisted with mop up and returned to station.

The 140 hectare burn will continue to burn into the coming days and will be patrolled by both the NSW Rural Fire Service and Forestry.
