‼️SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING ‼️

⚠️Kyogle has been mentioned in the warning area⚠️

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Kyogle, Urbenville and Wiangaree.
Safety advice
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.

⚠️ Flood Watch – Richmond River ⚠️

Kyogle Unit are closely monitoring current conditions, with the Richmond River currently under a Flood Watch issued by the Bureau of Meteorology as of 1249hrs today, Monday 18th May.

At 2030hrs, the Wiangaree gauge was recorded at 4.3m and rising (BOM reading), with some low-lying areas already impacted.

Kyogle Unit will continue to monitor conditions throughout the night and provide updates to the community when necessary.

If it’s flooded, forget it. Never drive, walk or ride through floodwater.

🏆NEZ AWARD CEREMONY🏆

Kyogle Unit travelled to Southern Cross University in Lismore on Saturday 16 May to attend the NSW SES North Eastern Zone Awards Ceremony.

Seven members were awarded the Commissioner’s Unit Citation for exceptional commitment to the community through life-preserving support rendered during the 2022 Northern Rivers flood event.

NSW SES Commissioner Mike Wassing attended the ceremony and spoke highly of the dedication and efforts of all volunteers involved in the floods, before presenting the awards to recipients.

This citation serves as a reminder of the dedication, commitment and professionalism shown by Kyogle Unit members while assisting and supporting the community during the record-breaking floods that impacted the local region.

Congratulations to all recipients on this well-deserved recognition.

A huge congratulations to NSW SES Kyogle Unit Senior Group Officer Cameron Castledine on representing the NSW SES and North Eastern Zone at the Australian Emergency Services Memorial in Canberra alongside other emerging leaders from across the state.
The memorial stands as a powerful reminder of the dedication, sacrifice and service shown by emergency service personnel across Australia, and it’s fitting to see leaders like Cameron involved in shaping the future of the NSW SES while honouring those who came before us.

This recognition comes after Cameron was recently named NSW SES Volunteer of the Year — an incredible achievement and a reflection of his commitment not only to the SES, but to the communities he serves every day.

Leadership in emergency services is about far more than responding to incidents — it’s about supporting volunteers, building resilient teams, mentoring the next generation and never forgetting the people who have given so much in service to others.

Well deserved Cameron — Kyogle, North Eastern Zone and the wider SES family are incredibly proud!

Young leaders from the NSW SES and emerging leaders from the NSW SES Volunteers Association recently came together at the Australian Emergency Services Memorial in Canberra — a place that stands as a powerful tribute to the courage, sacrifice and service of emergency service personnel from across Australia.

The memorial recognises those who have dedicated their lives to protecting communities, including those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Bringing together the next generation of leaders at such an important national site highlights the ongoing commitment to leadership, teamwork, service and supporting the future of emergency services in Australia.

The NSW SES Volunteers Association and National SES Volunteers Association is proud to support and encourage the development of emerging and young leaders within the NSW SES as we continue supporting members and volunteers into the future.

President Kim Davis ESM outlined the importance of the SESVA to continually support promotion, training and support of our young leaders.

‘Support to NSW SES members goes beyond our resilience training and welfare response support. It’s also about ensuring the community remembers those that lost their lives protecting others.’
