From Punchbowl Primary to Parliament House! 📚

Such a treat to catch up with a brilliant author Robbie Arnott in Canberra for the launch of the Parliamentary Friends of Books.

Robbie and I both went to Punchbowl Primary School, so it’s pretty special to find ourselves all these years later at Parliament House celebrating Australian books, authors and reading.

Always great to see a familiar face from home in Canberra, and even better to see Tassie talent like Robbie doing so well! 📖

Better, faster and more reliable internet is coming to more homes and businesses in Bass!

The Albanese Labor Government is investing up to $3 billion to upgrade more than 99 per cent of the remaining premises still relying on ageing fibre-to-the-node copper technology to full fibre.

This includes at least 88 premises in Gravelly Beach and 50 premises in Rosevears, with more local households and businesses also likely to be eligible.

Full fibre means faster speeds, fewer faults and a more reliable connection for working from home, running a business, accessing essential services and keeping in touch with family and friends.

Our original commitment was to deliver full fibre to more than 95 per cent of premises on the old copper network. With this additional investment, we will now reach more than 99 per cent.

Only in Tasmania!

The Launceston Medicare Urgent Care Clinic is the only UCC in Australia that has had to treat Tasmanian devil bites.

They might be cute, but those teeth are no joke. Enjoy our wildlife from a safe distance and please leave handling the devils to the experts!

And if you do need urgent care, the Launceston UCC is open seven days a week, with no appointment or Medicare card needed.

It was wonderful to visit Calvary Sandhill in South Launceston and hear about the difference a major new investment will make for residents, families and staff.

The Albanese Labor Government is investing $1.75 million to transform an existing wing into a dedicated 12-bed Memory Support Unit.

This upgrade will provide modern, specialised support for residents living with dementia and give local families confidence that their loved ones can receive high-quality care close to home.

I’m proud that we are investing in stronger aged care services for Northern Tasmania and supporting the dedicated staff who care for older people every day.

Paid prac is expanding! 🎓

I joined Minister for Education Jason Clare and local pharmacy students to talk about what this means for our future healthcare workforce.

Eligible pharmacy students will soon be able to receive the Commonwealth Prac Payment while completing mandatory placements, alongside students training in nine other frontline health professions.

This support will help students manage the cost of placements, complete their qualifications and spend more time focused on their training.

It was great to visit Lumus Imaging with Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care Rebecca White to learn more about the important diagnostic imaging services they provide for our community.

As someone living with coeliac disease, I was particularly excited to see the bone density scanner. Coeliac disease can affect the body’s ability to absorb nutrients and increase the risk of low bone density, making regular monitoring especially important.

Bone density scanning has often been difficult to access in Northern Tasmania, so having this technology available locally will make a real difference by helping people receive earlier diagnoses and ongoing care closer to home.

Thank you to the Lumus Imaging team for showing us around and sharing how their work is helping Northern Tasmanians access the care and answers they need.
