This weekend, the will deploy its CH-47D Chinook helicopter and a Bell 412 support aircraft to fight fires in France. This will mark the Service’s first-ever European deployment.

The aircraft will be accompanied by 24 highly skilled aerial and ground crew, and transported to France in partnership with the Australian Defence Force.

The Chinook, equipped with an 11,300-litre belly tank, has the largest payload of any firefighting helicopter in Australia. Working with the Bell 412, it is also capable of conducting waterbombing missions at night. Should it be tasked to do so in France, it will be the first time night-time waterbombing has been undertaken in the country.

Commissioner Trent Curtin says the deployment is a testament to the expertise of our aviation crews.

“We're proud to share that expertise with our international partners while strengthening the relationships that are so important when disasters occur around the world."

Reminder - AusAlert Test
Today at 2pm, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is conducting a test of the new AusAlert system. Despite not rolling out until October, the test today will ensure the system is working.

Phones and Devices will vibrate and sound a loud siren for up to 10 seconds, display a critical alert that will clearly state its a test.

If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time, and leave them off for at least one hour.

🚒 You’ll see our crew out and about today! 🚒

Today our brigade members will be conducting inspections and maintenance of fire hydrants throughout our local area.

These checks help ensure hydrants are clearly identifiable, accessible, and ready for use when they’re needed most. While we hope we never have to use them, every second counts during an emergency.

💧 Do you have a fire hydrant on or near your property? Here’s how you can help:

✅ Keep at least 1 metre around the hydrant clear of long grass, weeds, shrubs, fences, bins, parked vehicles, or other obstructions.
✅ Don’t cover or landscape over hydrants.
✅ If a hydrant is inside your property, make sure it’s easily accessible for emergency services.
✅ Let your local water authority know if you notice a damaged, leaking, or missing hydrant.

🔎 How do you identify a fire hydrant?

In NSW, hydrants are often marked by:
🔹 A blue reflective road marker (cat’s eye) positioned on the centre line or edge of the road.
🟨 Yellow painted markings on the road or kerb pointing towards the hydrant.
💧 The hydrant itself may be located in the footpath, nature strip, or just inside a property boundary.

If you see our members working around hydrants today, please slow down, give them plenty of space, and feel free to say hello!

Smoke alarms, unlike wine, do not age well over time.

Did you know that most smoke alarms have a use-by date? Some modern smoke alarms have a life-span of up to ten years and may not have a battery to change, making it easy to forget how long since they’ve been installed.

Remember to regularly clean and test your alarms, and check the use-by date to help keep track of their age.

Yesterday, 5 members from the Lawrence Fire Brigade were acknowledged for their involvement in an tragic incident that occurred in July 2024 for St Florians Day.

St. Florian’s Day is a time to recognise the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of firefighters and emergency responders who protect our communities every day. It’s a moment to show appreciation and honour those who serve on the front line, both past and present.

The Commissioners Certificate of Commendation was awarded for their efforts after a cane truck had fallen off the Lawrence Ferry into deep water, unfortunately resulting in the fatality of the driver.

Despite the efforts from the below members, Fire and Rescue, NSW Ambulance & NSW Police, the patient unfortunately did not survive.
