Oakbank School

Oakbank School This page is managed by Oakbank School, a South Australian Government Department for Education school

Situated in an attractive location between the small towns of Balhannah and Oakbank, we are the only Reception to Year 12 state school in the Adelaide Hills. Our school provides a comprehensive and progressive curriculum that allows individuals to discover and develop new skills, new ideas and competencies for tertiary studies or employment. Our motto, 'Learn, Achieve, Succeed' is reflected both i

n our curriculum and in our teaching. Learn - We cultivate within our students a genuine love of learning. We challenge students to think critically, empower them to develop their talents, and inspire them to engage fully with the world around them. We foster students' curiosity through inquiry-based learning techniques, building their confidence and creativity as they discover their skills and experience success within a caring school community. Achieve - Our holistic approach to education focuses on student wellbeing and empowerment. We aim to make explicit the connection between students taking responsibility for their learning and engagement, and their ultimate achievement. By fostering within our students an authentic desire to learn, we empower them to recognise the control they have over their ability to achieve success. Succeed - Our students find success through recognition of their own skills and abilities. We provide for them a broad range of richly engaging opportunities designed to develop their intellectual, social, emotional and physical capabilities. We instil within our students a strong sense of community and empower them to become well-rounded citizens, able to actively participate in and lead the local, national and global communities in which they live.

Exploring Future Careers at Lot Fourteen!

Our Year 9 and 10 students recently visited Lot Fourteen to explore emerging technologies and discover the exciting career pathways developing right here in South Australia.

Students visited the Australian Space Agency, explored the world of cybersecurity, and learned how artificial intelligence (AI) is being developed and used across a range of industries. They had the opportunity to see the work and research happening within these organisations and discover how they could build a future career in these rapidly growing fields.

What did our students think?

Lil W: “My favourite thing was when we went to the space centre and got to look around. It was a fun experience and I’d love to explore space again!”

Thomas H: “My favourite part of Lot Fourteen was seeing the Cybersecurity building. The live map of threats and attacks around the world was so interesting.”

Brodie W: “Learning about how the Mars rover works was really cool to see!”

It was a rewarding experience that gave our students valuable insights into the future of work, emerging technologies and exciting career pathways.

Oakbank School in The Courier!

We’re excited to be featured in The Courier as our students prepare for an incredible cultural exchange to New Caledonia later this year.

Ten students will take part in the Youth to Action program, building connections with young people from different cultures while exploring sustainability, leadership and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

A huge thank you to our students, staff, families and community for supporting this amazing opportunity. We can’t wait to see where this journey takes them!
