It's National Reconciliation Week - a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

This year’s theme, ‘All In’, calls on all Australians to actively commit to reconciliation, every day 💙

Join us as we come together on Bunurong Country and Wurundjeri Country this week, with two free community events hosted by Cardinia Shire Council.

• Welcome to Country and smoking ceremonies
• Community and cultural performances
• Family-friendly activities

🚌 Cardinia Mobile Library Update 📣

The Mobile Library will remain off the road until Friday 29 May while repair work is underway. At this stage, Myli expect the service to return on Saturday 30 May, provided the truck is cleared to operate safely.

💙 Thank you for your patience while repairs continue and while the team works through the practical impacts of the service being unavailable.

📚 If you currently have items on loan, you do not need to return them while the Mobile Library is out of service. Please disregard any overdue reminders you may receive during this time.

Any holds currently on board the Mobile Library cannot be accessed while the truck is with the mechanics. If this applies to your hold, the collection period will be extended once the Mobile Library is back in service, so you will not miss out on collecting your item.

ℹ️ For more information, contact MyLi 👉 https://www.myli.org.au/contact/

We’ve recently completed some game-changing upgrades at Cora Lynn Recreation Reserve 🎉

🤝 With support from the Victorian Government, we’ve redeveloped the reserve’s change rooms to include, unisex and accessible change rooms, dedicated umpire change facilities and spaces for strapping, first aid, storage and meetings. We’ve also installed new public toilets to better support visitors to the reserve.

⏰ A new timekeepers building and equipment shed has also been completed.

We celebrated the completion of works over the weekend, coinciding with Cora Lynn Football Netball Club’s centenary year! Congratulations to all involved! 👏

🎉 We’re excited to share an exciting first look at what’s ahead of Stages 2 and 3 of the Pakenham Revitalisation project!

We’re taking a major step forward towards creating a greener, safer and more accessible town centre for the community.

🏗️ Streetscape upgrades will transform:
• Drake Place from the Railway Hotel to John Street (Stage 2)
• John Street from Drake Place towards the Main Street roundabout (Stage 3).

Upgrades are expected to include:

🚶‍♂️ New wider, accessible footpaths

🚸 Safer pedestrian crossings

🚘 New road pavement and upgraded paving

💡 Additional lighting and new power bollards

🌳 Improved landscaping, trees and garden beds

💧 Drainage improvements

🧺 More comfortable seating, benches, bike racks, bins and picnic tables

With links to the town centre and the new Pakenham Community Hospital, we’re focused on improving accessibility and community safety.

This transformation supports local businesses, boosts connectivity, and reflects what our growing community wants: a safer, more welcoming place to live, work, and visit.

🚧 With the Stage 2 and 3 tender being awarded at the recent Council Meeting, construction is anticipated to start from July 2026, pending contractor availability.

Congratulations to our 2026 Stan Henwood Award Winner Noelene (Non) Blair! 👏

The Stan Henwood Award celebrates outstanding community contribution and honours the legacy of Stan Henwood OAM, whose dedication and service to Cardinia Shire has left a lasting impact across the shire.

💙 For more than 30 years, Non has made an extraordinary contribution to the cultural and community life across the Hills region. Her volunteer involvement spans numerous local organisations, including 15 years coordinating the Woorilla Writers Group, 20 years with the Emerald Community House, 15 years with GEMCO, 15 years managing the Emerald Market, 3 years leading the Arts Alliance, 32 years coordinating PAVE/Winterfest, and 2 years supporting Eastern Health.

A standout achievement has been Non’s leadership of the Woorilla International Poetry Prize, which has elevated local, national and international voices while strengthening Emerald’s reputation as a creative and inclusive hub. Her standing support of the Emerald Community House has had a meaningful impact on everyday community members 🏡

🎉 Congratulations to Non, and thank you to all our volunteers. Volunteers are the quiet achievers of our community, and so much of what makes Cardinia Shire a great place to live is because of you!
