Last month, a few of our firefighters from Station 417β€”along with our favourite helper, Marshal! β€”had a fantastic time attending the Parkes Early Childhood Centre Inc Emergency Services Day. 🐢

We were proud to stand alongside our friends Central West Police District, NSW SES Parkes Unit and Parkes NSW Ambulance. 🀝

The highlights of our day included:

πŸš’ Truck Tours: Showing the kids around and inside the truck.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’ Gear Demos: Demonstrating how some of our equipment works.

🐾 High Fives: Marshal handing out plenty of smiles and high fives!

A huge thank you to PECC for inviting us along. We love supporting our community!

If you have a community event you're hosting or want some fire education, get in touch and we can see if we can come along πŸ”₯

πŸš’ On Monday afternoon, Pump 417 was called to a "fire had occurred" incident.

🏠 On arrival, our crew found a house that was filled with light smoke.

πŸ”₯ A small fire in the oven was extinguished by the resident prior to our arrival.

πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸš’ Firefighters scanned the oven and surrounds with a thermal imaging camera to make sure the fire was out and hadn't extended.

πŸ’  A PPV fan was deployed to extract the smoke.

πŸ’¨ Atmospheric monitoring was conducted using a gas detector to ensure no hazardous gases remained before releasing the property back to the occupant.

🧯 FRNSW Kitchen Safety Tips:

πŸ‘¨πŸ½β€πŸ³ Keep looking when cooking!

🍲 Keep your oven, rangehood, and grill clean, because a build-up of grease and fat can easily ignite.

πŸ“± If an oven fire occurs, keep the oven door closed, turn off the appliance if it is safe to do so, and dial 000 immediately. Opening the door introduces oxygen, which can cause the fire to flare up rapidly.

πŸ’§ Never use water on oil fires. Water will cause a fat or oil fire to explode and spread rapidly.

🍳 If a pan catches fire, turn off the heat source if safe to do so and slide a lid or fire blanket over the flames.

Today is Smoke Alarm Action Day!

Last year, nearly half the homes damaged or destroyed by fire in NSW did not have a working smoke alarm! Be smart and take part in Smoke Alarm Action Day, and test your smoke alarm works! A working smoke alarm is your best early warning sign of a fire, giving you and your loved ones the chance to get out, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000).

What a great day! β˜€οΈ
Thank you to everyone that came to our open day. It's great to see so many people interested to see what we have and do!

Thanks to the 417 crew for organising, setting up and helping show the public what we're all about πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’ πŸ‘©β€πŸš’

A very big thank you to Phil Dixon for his antique truck, he has supported our public events for many years. Phil was telling us about the truck he brought in today, it's the same model as the first motorised fire truck in Parkes. Phil's knowledge and dedication to the restoration of these trucks is paramount in keeping the history of fire fighting alive πŸš’

We'll be back even bigger and better next year, we hope to see you there!
