What does it take to safely deliver a 40m ship loader? A whole lot of planning 👇

The arrival of Perdaman's ship loader at the Dampier Bulk Handling Facility (DBHF) marked a major milestone for the Dampier Cargo Wharf Project, and a huge effort behind the scenes to protect Australia’s biosecurity. 🌱

At over 40m long and 26m tall, bringing equipment of this scale into the country comes with risks, from soil and plant material to hitchhiker pests. 🚢

To manage this, the ship loader was discharged into a controlled biosecurity zone, designed for inspection and containment.

Our Biosecurity team at Pilbara Ports played a critical role in ensuring the operation ran smoothly.

🔹 With DBHF still under construction, the operation required exceptional approval, careful planning and months of strict compliance
🔹 Alternative Biosecurity Entry Point approval was secured from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF)
🔹 Strict controls were implemented including training, inspections, specialised equipment and restricted access zones

Over eight months, our team, alongside DAFF and contractors worked together to deliver a safe and seamless outcome ✅

Thanks to DAFF and all stakeholders for upholding the highest biosecurity standards! 👏

World Environment Day 2026: Climate Action 🌏 ♻️ 🍃

Today is World Environment Day, and this year’s theme, climate action, is a timely reminder of the role we all play in building a more sustainable future.

At Pilbara Ports, our Climate Action Plan guides how we respond to climate change, strengthen resilience across our operations and support a lower-emissions future across the broader supply chain.

Operating in the heart of the Pilbara, we know our responsibility extends beyond our ports to the people, environment and future of the region.

📽️In the video below, our Executive General Manager Ash Puri shares more about Pilbara Ports journey to decarbonisation. 🔽

Keeping our port safe and ready! 🚨 🦺 ⚓

On 22 May 2026, Pilbara Ports, in coordination with Fortescue and key emergency response stakeholders, Pilbara Ports conducted the annual Port Hedland Fire Onboard Exercise.

The exercise simulated an engine room fire on board a vessel alongside at one of Fortescue’s terminal berths and brought together vessel crew, Vessel Traffic Services, the Harbour Master team, towage providers, emergency responders and other port service providers.

By testing communication, emergency coordination, marine firefighting capability and overall port preparedness, the exercise played an important role in helping maintain a safe and resilient port environment.

Thanks to everyone who took part. Check out some pictures from the day below 🔽 📸

🖤 💛 ❤️ National Reconciliation Week 2026: “All In”

From 27 May to 3 June, Pilbara Ports proudly marked National Reconciliation Week across our locations, creating opportunities for our people to connect, learn and reflect on the role we all play in advancing reconciliation.

This year’s theme, “All In”, was a timely reminder that reconciliation takes commitment, action and a willingness to keep learning. Teams across Pilbara Ports took part in a range of activities including reconciliation discussions, shared morning teas and community-led events. These moments created space for meaningful conversations, strengthened connections and celebrated the rich cultures and histories of First Nations peoples.

“National Reconciliation Week is an important opportunity for us to come together, deepen our understanding and reflect on the role we all play in advancing reconciliation,” said First Nations Engagement Manager Emma Hazelton.

At Pilbara Ports, this work continues through our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan and our ongoing commitment to listening, learning and building respectful relationships. We are proud to have marked the week in a meaningful and successful way across our ports.

We’re all in for National Reconciliation Week 2026

From 27 May to 3 June, we’re proud to mark National Reconciliation Week and reflect on two significant milestones in Australia’s history, the 1967 referendum and the Mabo decision, while looking ahead to a shared future.

This year’s theme is a call for all of us to step forward and play our part. Reconciliation takes commitment, action and a willingness to keep learning every day.

At Pilbara Ports, we’re continuing that journey through our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan, strengthening our understanding of First Nations cultures and histories, and supporting meaningful outcomes.

🤝 Keeping connected through community consultation

Our Community Consultation Committees (CCCs) bring together local representatives, Traditional Owners, community groups, business, industry and government to share ideas and stay connected.

✅ They give our teams a chance to share updates on port operations, environmental matters and projects, as well as offer site tours.
✅ Just as importantly, they create space for the community to raise important issues, share feedback and ideas, and build stronger local connections.

🔊 Dampier CCC member Heather O’Keefe said: “I find the DCCC meetings very informative and provide an opportunity to understand more about how Pilbara Ports is working day to day, as well as contributing to the community.

“I particularly like seeing the positive impact of the community grant funding at all levels throughout the region.”

Celebrating community in Hedland 👫

What a fantastic evening in Hedland! Last week, our Pilbara Ports team joined the community at one of the region’s biggest and most vibrant annual events, Celebrate Hedland, proudly hosted by the Town of Port Hedland.

🎸 🌮 🎉 From live entertainment and local businesses to community groups, food stalls and activities for all ages, it was a wonderful celebration of everything that makes Hedland special.

We loved chatting with community members about recreational vessel safety, career opportunities at Pilbara Ports, our community grants program, local partnerships, projects such as the new seafarers centre and more.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall, had a chat and joined in the fun.

Here are a few snapshots from the evening 📸
