We're informed...

The Northern and Yorke Regional Drought Resilience Plan (NYRDRP) is helping shape how our region prepares for the future. It's a living document, used to identify, prioritise and coordinate the actions needed to build resilience among farm businesses, supply chains and the wider community.

Northern and Yorke is one of three SA pilot regions developing a plan like this, funded through the Australian Government's Future Drought Fund, an initiative designed to strengthen farmer and community resilience as the climate changes.

Implementation is being driven by a consortium of regional bodies, NY Landscape Board, NYLGA, RDAYMN, RDABGLAP, PIRSA and the SA Drought Hub, working together to turn the plan into action on the ground.

Why does this matter now? Our communities and farming businesses have adapted well through decades of change, but modelling from the Department for Environment and Water (2020) shows a harder road ahead: drought is projected to become more severe and more frequent, with the region expected to spend 65% of the time in drought by 2030.

Agriculture is our region's biggest employer and economic driver, so when farm businesses feel the pressure, it flows through to local shops, families and community groups too.

A fabulous day for the Flying Start Professional Network. This event was held last week at the Paskeville Field Day Function Centre, a facility RDA Yorke and Mid North assisted in developing.

What a stunning venue to host the event in. Brilliant guest speakers Allan Williams and Renee Secker from the Department for Child Protection delivered a genuinely educational session, sparking rich networking and discussion on how local preschools can work with children, families and communities to build stronger support networks.

Thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to the conversation.
