Following recent motor vehicle and motorcycle crashes across the Southern Region in past couple of weeks, NSW police are encouraging motorists to take extra caution on our roads.

Every year thousands of lives are cut short or changed forever by preventable crashes. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer future for everyone on NSW roads.

Here are some safety tips for drivers of motor vehicles and motorcycles to stay safe;

🚓Fatigue is deadly—being awake for 17 hours = driving with the equivalent to a blood alcohol concentration reading of 0.05.
🚓Recognise the signs of tiredness and avoid driving fatigued.
🚓Adjust your speed to suit road conditions and posted limits.
🚓Wear appropriate safety equipment (seatbelt, helmet, etc.)
🚓Assume other motorists haven’t seen you— keep a safe distance.
🚓Motorcycles take longer to stop—know your braking distances.
🚓Always check your blind spots for motorcyclists
🚓 Never text and drive - keep your phone out of sight and out of mind

A warm welcome to four new probationary constables joining the Monaro Police District from Class 368!

With two officers starting in Queanbeyan and two in Cooma, it’s especially great to see local members returning home to begin their policing careers in the communities that helped shape them.

The new officers were joined on their Induction Day by the Hon. Steven Whan MP, Member for Monaro, NSWPF Support Services, and family members as they were officially welcomed into the district.

We wish them all the best as they begin their journey serving the Monaro community.

On Monday the 4th of May 2026, the Crime Prevention Officer and the Youth Engagement Officer teamed up with PCYC to attend Karabar High School to participate in the Link Up event.

Link Up is an initiative of the Youth Interagency Network to promote all the wonderful services, programs and supports available to those in their adolescence.

It was great to see the students interact with police and ask questions about career opportunities in policing and programs available now with PCYC.
