BBRF ROUND 3 RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED

Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon Michael McCormack MP, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development has announced the projects to be funded under Round Three of the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF). A total of 166 projects to the value of $197.4 million have been approved for funding under the Infrastructure Projects Stream and 164 projects to the value of $6.9 million have been approved for funding under the Community Investments Stream. Round Three was highly competitive with 915 applications received under both streams.

Strong energy targets for buildings could deliver emissions
and power savings in Australia’s Top End: New report

The Northern RDA Alliance has supported the development of the report that shows:

Building Code improvements from 2022 onwards could save Queenslanders $6 billion in energy bills between now and 2050, $430 million for the Northern Territory and $4 billion in Western Australia. These benefits outweigh the upfront costs of the improvements.

Updating the Building Code from 2022 could reduce emissions by 19 million tonnes for Queensland, 2 million tonnes in the Northern Territory and 10 million tonnes in Western Australia.

Inquiry into Austrade's role in attracting investment in Australia

The Trade and Investment Growth Committee has commenced an inquiry into the role that the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) has in attracting investment to Australian businesses and how they can help those businesses to attract investment themselves.

The Committee will inquire into and report on:

• What role Austrade has in attracting investment to Australian businesses;
• What the benefits have been from investment in Australian businesses; and
• How Austrade might better help Australian businesses to attract investment.

The 2018 Implementation Report provides a update on the progress of the Our North, Our Future: White Paper on Developing Northern Australia initiatives.

The white paper sets out a 20-year implementation schedule that involves 51 measures, backed by government investment of over $6 billion. At the time of this report’s release, 38 of the white paper’s 51 measures were delivered and the remaining were well underway.

A strong and prosperous north is critical to Australia’s economic future. North Australia is a great place to live and do business and it is getting even better.
