BBQ and camping gas bottles can still contain residual gas, even when they appear empty. When placed in bins, they can create a significant risk of fire, explosion and injury.

Dorset Council has confirmed the appointment of Acting General Manager Jayne Miller for a further six months, providing stability and continuity as the newly elected Council is established and preparations begin for the recruitment of a permanent General Manager.

Mayor Rhys Beattie said the extension will help ensure continuity for staff, Councillors and the community during an important period of transition. Council services, projects and day-to-day operations will continue as normal.

👕💬 Funky Shirt Friday is here at Dorset Council!

Our Infrastructure team will be sporting their new colourful work shirts every Friday, supplied by Australian social-impact workwear organisation TradeMutt.

More than just a bright design, these shirts are designed to start important conversations about mental health and wellbeing, particularly within blue-collar industries. TradeMutt also donates 50% of its profits to TIACS (This Is A Conversation Starter), providing free mental health support for tradies, truckies, farmers and other blue-collar workers.

So, if you spot our team out and about on a Friday, don't be shy to stop and say hello. You never know what conversation might make a difference. 💙

North East Tasmania Art & Craft Festival | 19-20 September 2026

TasWater have advised Council that these planned works were delayed from the original schedule, and are now set to commence today, Monday 7 September. Works are estimated to take 2 weeks to complete.

🚧 TasWater Upcoming Works at Branxholm Bridge 🚧

To help maintain reliable water services for the community, TasWater have advised Council that it will be replacing all existing pipe supports on the Branxholm Bridge as part of essential infrastructure upgrades to improve the reliability of the water main system.

📅 When: From Monday, 17 August 2026
🕖 Work hours: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Saturday (weather permitting)
⏳ Duration: Approximately two weeks

What to expect:
✅ Replacement of all pipe supports on the bridge
✅ Increased vehicle movements, including heavy machinery
✅ General construction noise
✅ Partial road and pedestrian footpath closures during works
✅ Traffic management in place to maintain access
✅ Full road access restored at the end of each workday

🚗 Please allow extra travel time, as delays may occur near the work site.
