The Australian Convict Story
Across the country there are 11 World Heritage listed sites that bring together different parts of a story, one that speaks of forced migration, punishment, education, industry, sadness, loss, determination and creating a new life, colony and society.
Today Port Arthur, along with Cascades Female Factory Historic Site, Coal Mines Historic Site, Darlington Probation Station (Maria Island), Woolmers and Brickendon Estates, Fremantle Prison, Hyde Park Barracks, Cockatoo Island Convict Site, Old Great North Road, Kingston and Arthur's Vale Historic Area (KAHVA) and Old Government House & Domain, marks the 11th anniversary of the UNESCO listing as part of the Australian Convict Sites.
We acknowledge the privilege that we have in being caretakers for such unique built and natural landscapes and do so with pride, ensuring that this story continues to be seen, heard and felt for many more generations.
We are open every day 10am - 5pm. Pre-bookings for entry and tours are essential and can be made through www.portarthur.org.au or by calling 1800 659 101.
