The Riverina Zone has seen an increase in Triple Zero (000) calls to burns that have not been notified. When a burn has not been notified, responding crews have no way of knowing whether it is a planned burn or an uncontrolled fire. As a result, these fires are treated as a fire until proven otherwise and may be subject to enforcement action.
Failure to notify a burn can result in on-the-spot fines starting from $1,100, in addition to the unnecessary deployment of emergency services.

Before lighting your fire, check the latest weather forecast and Fire Danger Rating to ensure conditions are safe and suitable.
๐ Notifying your neighbours of your burn helps prevent unnecessary 000 calls, reduces emergency responses to planned burns, and helps keep firefighters available for genuine emergencies.
If in doubt, ask before you light up.
