🚒The NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW will be conducting a planned hazard reduction burn within Silverlight Reserve, Ashmont, located north of Red Hill Road.

🚕𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂
Motorists travelling on Olympic Highway, Sturt Highway, and Red Hill Road are advised to:
- Drive to the conditions
- Reduce speed
- Turn headlights on
- Keep windows closed

💨𝐒𝐌𝐎𝐊𝐄 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐖𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑🌧️
Forecast conditions indicate smoke will drift in a south-westerly direction, away from residential areas of Wagga Wagga. Rain is forecast for Sunday 3 May and Monday 4 May which will assist with blacking out / mopping up.

Residents living within the Ashmont, Lloyd, San Isidore and surrounding areas are advised to:
- Keep doors and windows closed to minimise smoke entry
- Remove washing from clotheslines
- Ensure pets have access to sheltered areas
- Avoid entering the burn area for safety reasons
- If you have asthma or a respiratory condition, limit outdoor activity when smoke is present. If symptoms occur, use prescribed medication or seek medical advice.

Smoke In Vicinity Report

At 1230 today, we received a notification regarding smoke in the vicinity of Spenlo Lane, Uranquinty.

A crew attended the location but found nothing locally.

During this time of year, agricultural burns are regularly conducted by farmers across the Riverina, resulting in frequent sightings and smell of smoke.

Key Considerations:

Please only contact triple zero if you witness an unattended fire.

If you plan to conduct a burn, kindly notify your neighbours and the RFS office with at least 24 hours' notice.

By adhering to these guidelines, we can minimise nuisance calls to the brigade and ensure our resources are available for other emergencies.

🔥 FIRE SAFETY REMINDER FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS 🔥

Recent incidents have highlighted the importance of using fire safely and legally. Over the past few weeks, crews from the NSW Rural Fire Service have responded to several fires started by activities such as driving vehicles, welding and using angle grinders in long dry grass without firefighting equipment. In one case, a fire spread rapidly and nearly resulted in the loss of a home.

This week, another incident involved a landholder conducting a burn-off without a required fire permit.

⚠️ Under the Rural Fires Act 1997, activities that may cause a fire must be carried out safely, and a fire permit is required for burning during the Bush Fire Danger Period.

In each of these recent incidents, the persons responsible were issued Penalty Infringement Notices ranging from $660 to $1,100.

✅ Please take precautions when using equipment that produces sparks.
✅ Always check local conditions and restrictions.
✅ Obtain a fire permit before conducting any burn-offs.
✅ Notify all neighbours and the RFS 24 hours prior to burning off.

These rules exist to protect lives, homes, and our community. If you see fire that is unattended or out of control, call 000 immediately.

Incident Call

Just after 4am this morning Uranquinty RFB received a call to a tree across the Olympic Hwy nearest cross Dunn’s Rd.

On arrival an additional crew was requested while NSW police carried out traffic management, both Uranquinty and Glenfield RFB cut and removed the tree from the highway.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨:
✅ Live in a bush fire prone area
✅ Are elderly, infirm, or living with a disability

𝐀𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞:
• Clearing leaves, sticks and fallen branches
• Thinning vegetation
• Trimming overhanging branches near homes
• Mowing or slashing long grass
• Cleaning gutters
• Help developing a Bush Fire Survival Plan

All properties are assessed and works carried out by trained NSW RFS Mitigation crews.

🔥 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝟏 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 🔥

From Sunday 1 March, fire permits will be available for residents within the Coolamon, Wagga Wagga, Lockhart and Junee LGAs.

If you’re planning to burn, please make sure you understand and comply with the permit conditions:

✅ No burning before 2pm
✅ Fires must be fully extinguished before being left unattended
✅ A 3 metre fire break must be in place around the burn
✅ A minimum of 2 fire units, each with at least 1,000 litres of water, must be on site
✅ No burning of timber

These conditions are in place to help protect our communities, our volunteers, and your property.

Incident Call

This morning at 0845 Uranquinty received a call to a motor vehicle accident along Oxley Bridge rd.

Crews attended along with Nsw Police x3 Nsw Ambulance x2 and Nsw Ambulance Rescue and found a single vehicle had left the road and rolled onto its side before coming to rest on the shoulder.

No persons were trapped and the occupant of the vehicle had left the scene. Crews made the scene safe before departing the incident. The car remains in place for the owner to recover.

Grass Fire

Uranquinty RFB along with multiple other RFS brigades and farm fire units responded to a grass fire in Yerong Creek shorty before 1300 hrs.

First arriving crews from Yerong Creek made an aggressive attack on the fire and under took property protection.

Multiple assets came under threat as the fire ran to the east.

A quick coordinated attack from all crews saw minor damage to 2 structures before crews gained the upper hand.

The fire burnt around 8 hectares and saw around 10 appliances from both the Riverina and Southern Border zones attend.
