⏰ One week to go!

Expressions of interest for the new Welcome to Waratah sign artwork close on Tuesday, 15 September 2026.

We’re looking for an original artwork or creative concept that celebrates Waratah’s history, wilderness, community and unique character.

You don’t need to be a professional artist. Local residents and anyone with a connection to the Waratah community can apply individually or collaboratively.

The successful entrant will receive a $1,000 honorarium, with the selected concept professionally refined for the new sign.

There’s something pretty special about being part of the team that brings the Wynyard Tulip Festival to life.

Volunteering is a rewarding way to get involved in one of our community’s most-loved events, meet new people and help us create a fantastic festival experience for locals and visitors alike.

Whether you can help for a short shift or a larger part of the day, have plenty of experience or none at all, there are a range of ways to get involved. You might already have skills suited to a particular role, or you may simply be keen to learn something new.

Volunteer roles may include:
• Event setup and pack-down
• Visitor and information assistance
• Event program distribution
• Attendee survey collection
• Shuttle bus queue assistance
• Site monitoring
• Bin monitoring and waste education
• Info and merchandise tent assistance

It’s also a great opportunity to build practical event experience, learn new skills, contribute to the local community and enjoy the Festival from behind the scenes.

And did we mention there’s a free coffee involved? ☕😉

Join Interim CEO Gary this Thursday 10 September for a short presentation about what it’s like to be a councillor, the responsibilities involved and what to expect from the role. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

🏆 Wynyard Sensory Garden takes home the trophy!

We’re proud to share that Council has received a Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) Award for Excellence, recognising the inclusive, community-led approach behind the Wynyard Sensory Garden.

Originally planned as a dementia-friendly garden, the project evolved through community consultation, with feedback encouraging Council to think more broadly about how the space could welcome and support people of all ages and abilities.

By listening and adapting, the Sensory Garden became a space genuinely shaped by the people who would use it.

And that community influence hasn’t stopped since construction. The later addition of the Wind Phone, an idea put forward by a community member, is another example of how local people continue to contribute to the garden and its story.

This award celebrates not only what was created, but how it was created — through genuine engagement, inclusive design and a willingness to let our community influence the outcome.

A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone who helped shape and deliver this special community space. 🌿

August Council Meeting Outcomes:

• Council adopted the Camp Creek Master Plan 2026, a strategic framework to guide the future management, restoration and low-impact use of the Camp Creek corridor.
• Council resolved to accept the transfer of the land at the Wynyard Waste Transfer Station, 170 Goldie Street, Wynyard from the Crown for nil consideration.
• Council resolved to allocate funding of up to $35,000 from Council ‘s next budget to commission an independent, Certified Environmental Practitioner (Site contamination specialist – CenvP (SC) to design and execute a 3-month ambient air and surface dust testing program.
• Council resolved to support the establishment of a temporary static respirable particulate monitoring station in the vicinity of Katelyn Drive, Wynyard, for a period of one month, at an estimated cost of approximately $500, to address community concerns regarding potential exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS).
• Council resolved that Council officers investigate and report back on the ability to introduce a Drug and Alcohol procedure policy for Councillors.

Sisters Beach Open Space Plan – Have Your Say

Waratah-Wynyard Council has released a community survey to help inform the development of the Sisters Beach Open Space Plan.

The project will create a shared vision for how the community’s key open space – including the playground, amenities and green spaces – can evolve over time in response to coastal change, while continuing to support environmental regeneration, recreation and community connection.

Community members can contribute by completing the online survey or attending the upcoming community workshop:
