Waratah-Wynyard Council

Waratah-Wynyard Council Waratah-Wynyard Council is a local government covering the heart of Tasmania's beautiful north-west.

Waratah-Wynyard is renowned for the spectacular display of tulips at Table Cape that showcases a local festival, "Bloomin' Tulips" held each October. Take a little time to explore its beaches and enjoy the fresh sea air and safe swimming and boating opportunities. Waratah-Wynyard Council maintains barbecues, picnic shelters, public toilets and change rooms at its beach areas. In Wynyard, there are

kilometres of walking track along the banks of the Inglis River to cater for the more energetic and for those who prefer a short leisurely stroll in peaceful and scenic surroundings. Further south, walking trails are to be found in Hellyer Gorge and at Waratah, at the foot of Mount Bischoff, the site of the world's richest tin mine at the turn of the 20th century.

The long weekend is here!
Why not embrace the weather, rug up in a waterproof jacket and discover one of Tasmania’s most spectacular waterfalls right here in our municipality — Waratah Falls.

Council installed a viewing platform, complete with seating and interpretive signage, giving locals and visitors the chance to experience the falls up close while learning about their rich history and heritage.

Whether you're chasing waterfalls, fresh mountain air, or a scenic weekend adventure, Waratah Falls is well worth the visit. 🍃

🌟Sisters Beach Community Conversation Recap!

We had a great turnout at our Community Conversation in Sisters Beach earlier this week, with around 35–40 residents joining us for a positive and engaging discussion.

The conversation covered a wide range of topics, including Sisters Beach erosion planning, environmental matters, future planning priorities and community access to defibrillators. It was great to hear the community's ideas, concerns and aspirations for the area.

👏A big thank you to Little Sisters General Store for hosting us and being part of this wonderful community initiative. We also extend our thanks to everyone who attended, shared their thoughts and contributed to such a constructive and community-focused evening.

📌Our next Community Conversation will be held in Somerset on Monday 6 July 2026. Keep following our page for updates on the location and further details.

As we mark National Reconciliation Week, we reflect on the deep and enduring connection the Tasmanian Aboriginal peoples have to the land on which we live, work and gather.

This acknowledgement is a moment to recognise and respect the Traditional Custodians, the Tommeginer people, who have cared for this Country for generations, and to continue learning from the stories, culture and history that shape our community.

This year’s theme, All In, reminds us that reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility — built through listening, respect and meaningful action.

To read Council’s position on National Reconciliation Week, please visit our website:

This initiative also aligns with Council’s adopted Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

This video was made in collaboration with Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation (CHAC).
