Last year, nearly half the homes damaged or destroyed by fire in NSW did not have a working smoke alarm! Be smart and take part in Smoke Alarm Action Day, and test your smoke alarm works! A working smoke alarm is your best early warning sign of a fire, giving you and your loved ones the chance to get out, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000).

Charging devices like e-bikes, e-scooters and power tools can be dangerous if done incorrectly. Stay safe with these simple tips:

🔥 Charge smart:
• Install smoke/heat alarms where batteries are charged
• Charge large batteries in garages or sheds, not living areas
• Never charge while sleeping or when you’re not home
• Unplug once fully charged

🔌 Use the right gear:
• Only use the original or approved charger
• Look for the Australian compliance mark

🏠 Charge safely:
• Use hard, non-flammable surfaces (no beds, lounges or carpet)
• Keep exits clear – don’t charge near doors or pathways

⚠️ Check your battery:
• Don’t use if it’s swollen, leaking, overheating or damaged

Today we recognise St Florian’s Day, honouring the patron saint of firefighters and the courage, dedication, and sacrifice shown by firefighters around the world.

At Station 510 Yamba, we are proud to serve our community, by always being prepared for anything to protect the irreplaceable.

Like guardians of peace in a galaxy far, far away, firefighters operate as a team, rely on training and skill, and answer the call when duty demands it, because protecting the community is always the mission.

Today we also acknowledge firefighters everywhere who put themselves on the line to keep others safe, as well as the families, friends, and support crews who make that service possible.

May the Fourth be with you 🚀

Warm regards,
510 Yamba Crew 🔥🚒

Don’t let a cold snap turn into a call-out.

As the temperature starts to drop now is the perfect time to do a quick fire safety check:

- Test your smoke alarms, you won’t smell smoke while asleep
- Keep heaters 1m clear and check for faults
- Check electric blankets for damage or hot spots before use
- Never use outdoor heaters (LPG/heat beads) indoors
- Keep chimneys clean and wood at least 1m from fires

Have a home escape plan. If there’s a fire: get out, stay out, call Triple Zero (000).
