** Volunteer Appreciation Post **

This weekend units across the Clarence Valley came together at NSW SES Yamba Unit to complete their foundational training.

In the lead up to this weekend, these volunteers completed components of this training during their unit training nights and came together this weekend to bring all this together & assessment on what they have learnt.

This weekend covered foundational skills including:

- Using Communications (radios etc)
- Using our tasking/despatch program in the field
- Using Fire Equipment
- Using Ladders, power tools & equipment safely
- Scene Safety & preservation
- Working Together in a Team environment
- Looking after yourself operationally
- More

They also got to work with their fellow volunteers from different units across the Clarence Valley.

We thank these members as well as our volunteer trainers, SME’s, Helpers & catering team for your time & dedication to your community this weekend.

“Your Community, Your Crew - always ready!”

🚨🚨 SHOW SUPPORT FOR OUR VOLUNTEERS 🚨 🚨

Tomorrow Wednesday 20th May, 2026 our communities are encouraged to wear orange as part of Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day), showing support for the more than 11,000 NSW State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers who respond to floods, storms and other emergencies across the state.

In the past year alone, NSW SES volunteers contributed almost 900,000 volunteer hours, responding to more than 61,000 incidents, including over 45,000 storm-related requests for assistance and more than 1,100 flood rescues.

WOW Day provides an important opportunity for the community to recognise the dedication of SES volunteers.

Our volunteers are everyday people doing extraordinary things,
they are part of the fabric of their towns and communities, giving up time with family, work and personal commitments to help others when it matters most.

Leave a message of support for your local volunteers from NSW SES Yamba Unit here or

WOW Day is also a chance to encourage more people to consider volunteering.

“Volunteering with the NSW SES is a rewarding way to learn new skills, connect with others and make a real difference in your community.”

WET WEATHER AHEAD
☔️🌂🌧️⛈️

To our community,

Heads Up…. It might be time to organise a plan b for outdoor activities this weekend! ☔️😬

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast throughout Sunday-Tuesday, so we recommend monitoring conditions over the coming days.

Coastal rainfall is expected to increase with a focus along the north coast. There is a potential for localised moderate to heavy falls which could cause flash flooding.

📲 Download Hazards Near Me https://www.nsw.gov.au/emergency/hazards-near-me-app or visit the NSW SES website https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/ to stay up to date with warnings and information, especially as the weather moves through and may affect other areas.

LIKE & FOLLOW our local NSW SES Yamba Unit page for local information & warnings!!!

Our members are ready to respond to any calls for assistance, but we ask the community to be prepared too.

🚫 Steer clear of floodwater - If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route. Remember that flash flooding is dangerous and unpredictable, so stay vigilant.

🔸 Move your car under cover or away from trees and powerlines if safe to do so.

🔸Prepare early… this will ensure you are prepared and may free up our volunteers to assist others in need that can’t help themselves.

🔸 Keep clear of creeks and storm drains

🔸 If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring Triple Zero (000) if you need rescue

🔸 Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.

📞 If you require assistance in floods and storms, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In life-threatening situations, call Triple Zero (000).
