Formation and Growth of BBSA
The Bangladesh Baseball-Softball Association (BBSA) was officially established on November 25, 2006. Under the vision of founding General Secretary Aminul Islam Liton, the first training camp was held at Paltan Maidan in Dhaka with just 15 players, marking the birth of baseball in the country. Coach Hiroki Watanabe, a Japanese national working in Bangladesh through an NGO, was the first official baseball coach in Bangladesh and played a pivotal role in the program’s early development. From 2007 to 2009, local programs expanded, culminating in the first-ever National Baseball Tournament at the National Stadium in 2009. Coaching and Development Expansion
In the following years, the BBSA attracted international and local experts:

Sean J. Moore (USA) – Athletics Director based in Dhaka
Rafique Choudhury (Canada) – Joined in 2016 and led national team tryouts and talent development
BBSA teams began gaining momentum as organizations like Bangladesh Police and Ansar Bahini included baseball in their service programs. Daily training was led by Mohammad Azam Ali Khan, whose coaching helped form the Bangladesh Police baseball team. International Representation
To date, BBSA has fielded four national teams in international competitions:
India (2018) – First national appearance and international win
Sri Lanka (2019) – 4th place finish in the West Asia Baseball Cup
Pakistan (2023) – 3rd appearance at the 14th West Asia Baseball Cup
Dubai (2024) – Participated in the Arab Classic League
Organizational Structure and Recognition
BBSA is governed by a 24-member Executive Committee with a formal constitution outlining its operational roles and responsibilities. In 2009, BBSA was officially recognized by the Government of Bangladesh and the National Sports Council (NSC). The NSC allocated Room 239 at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium as the BBSA headquarters. In 2019, BBSA became an official member of both the Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) and the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). Current Committee Update (2025)
In March 2025, the Ministry of Youth and Sports dissolved the former temporary committee after 18 years and approved a 17-member Ad-Hoc Committee led by Talha Yubaer. This new leadership team will remain in place until further elections are held by the Ministry.
