We were happy to support and join a group from Bulgarian Greenhouse Grower’s Association (BAPOP) for a visit to a modern and highly efficient 6ha turnkey greenhouse project heated by geothermal energy - tailored and built in Hungary by the Dutch construction company Certhon.

The visit is a part of our continuous efforts to showcase the significant potential that the business model of geothermal energy integrated into a modern greenhouse system has for revival and substantial growth of the Bulgarian greenhouse sector.

The Netherlands, with its cutting edge technology, knowledge and expertise in both fields, is ready and willing to be a long-term partner of Bulgaria in implementation.

The Embassy of the Netherlands in Bulgaria started partnership with JA Bulgaria on “AgriFuture” - a pilot program in agricultural vocational education in Bulgaria. The program, supported by the Netherlands Agricultural Network, will involve at least two schools and focus on horticulture.

The program’s activities include review and advise on school curriculums aiming to improve them and make them more attractive to students and up to the needs of agri-businesses in their regions. A training for teachers, focused on skills and knowledge for modern agri-productions and supply chains, will be also organized this summer. And throughout the next schools year, a school competition will inspire student’s entrepreneurial spirit and help them upgrade their digital and AI skills, based on a real businesses cases and agri challenges.

“We identify how crucial vocational education is for sustainable modernization of Bulgarian agriculture as well as for supporting a next generation of successful farmers and agri-professionals. With “AgriFuture”, we are happy and enthusiastic to help join forces between Dutch knowledge and know-how in vocational education and training; the energy, entrepreneurial training skills and experience of Junior Achievement Bulgaria, as well as expertise and commitment of other partnering Bulgarian schools, businesses and institutions” – emphasized Sophie Neve – agricultural counsellor of the Netherlands for Bulgaria, Romania and Moldova. “We are ambitious to turn this pilot program into successful scale-up and make the Netherlands a long-term partner of Bulgaria in modernization of its green education. We believe in Bulgarian talent and the Netherlands is dedicated to help it spout and blossom” – she added.

It is with great pleasure and excitement that we look back on a wonderful King’s Day reception, celebrating the birthday of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander. It was an honour to welcome so many distinguished guests, including representatives of the Bulgarian Government, members of Parliament, the diplomatic corps, public institutions, business and NGO partners, as well as our valued Dutch community.

Your presence once again highlighted the strong and enduring partnership between our countries - both bilaterally and as close allies within the EU and NATO. Over the past year, we have worked closely together to build meaningful cooperation, and it is truly a pleasure to continue this work together.

The 🇳🇱 and 🇧🇬 Directors-General for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Heleen Bakker and Mr. Yordan Parvanov, met in Sofia for consultations on bilateral and European affairs. They discussed the warm bilateral relations, as showcased by cooperation and new trade opportunities in the fields of agriculture (incl. geothermal warming of greenhouses), maritime connectivity (modernization of the ports of Burgas and Varna) and collaboration in countering foreign interference and disinformation. Also, they underlined our shared ambition to further deepen cooperation and to engage more regularly between our ministries on key EU-topics, such as EU-enlargement, the Multi-annual Financial Framework and Migration.
