On March 21, our SSU unit, in collaboration with the Mathematical Sciences Forum, successfully carried out the annual water tank cleaning program, coinciding with World Water Day on March 22.

A total of 110 volunteers from the SSU and the Mathematical Sciences Forum were divided into eight groups and sent to different water reservoirs—seven tanks, with one team serving as the refreshment team. The cleaning process involved completely draining the tanks, followed by the removal of accumulated mud and debris to maintain proper hygiene and water quality.

Throughout the working hours, refreshments were provided by the designated refreshment team, ensuring that participants remained energized and motivated—while also helping them stay warm on the cold, rainy day. The event was completed smoothly, reflecting strong teamwork and commitment among all the volunteers, who worked with great enthusiasm.

This initiative highlights the importance of maintaining clean water facilities and demonstrates the active engagement of students in community service activities.

On 28th February 2026, the Student Support Service (SSU) carried out several community service activities, demonstrating our commitment to social responsibility and volunteerism.

Firstly, 15 members participated in a cleaning campaign at the College Zangdopelri (Lhakhang). The team thoroughly swept the surrounding area and carefully mopped the inside of the lhakhang, ensuring that the sacred space remained clean, peaceful, and welcoming for everyone. This activity not only promoted cleanliness but also reflected our respect for spiritual and cultural values within the college community.

In collaboration with Kanglung Hospital, 6 members (3 male and 3 female) took part in a Measles Outbreak Preparedness Mock Drill, as requested by the hospital authorities. The mock drill was conducted to strengthen emergency response readiness and enhance coordination in case of a potential measles outbreak. Our volunteers actively participated in the simulation.
Additionally, 4 members visited Ritsangdung to deliver the monthly ration to our Grandfather. This regular initiative reflects our continued commitment to supporting and caring for the elderly in our community. The visit also provided an opportunity to spend time with him, ensuring his well-being and offering companionship alongside material support.

Report on SSU Participation in the Fourth Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) Volunteer Program

Gelephu, December 2025

The Sherubtse Social Service Unit (SSU), with the support of the College Management of Sherubtse College and the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB), participated in the Fourth Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) Volunteer Program from 23 to 26 December 2025. A total of 219 volunteers from Sherubtse College, comprising 130 students and 89 staff members, joined over 10,000 volunteers nationwide in this major national service initiative.

Day One: Opening Ceremony and Deployment
On 23 December 2025, all volunteers assembled at the Gelephu Archery Ground at 8:30 a.m. for the opening ceremony and briefing by the Governor, Dr. Lotay Tshering, who highlighted the objectives and national significance of the GMC initiative. Following the ceremony, volunteers were deployed to their respective work sites under the guidance of team leaders, Desuups, and Pelsups. Lunch and refreshments, including water, juice, and ice cream, were provided daily, and work concluded at 4:00 p.m.

Day Two and Day Three: Field Work and Team Engagement
On the second and third days, volunteers reported directly to their assigned teams and carried out fieldwork. Most Sherubtse volunteers were assigned to Team 3, where we actively engaged in clearing bushes and cleaning areas near the Thromde Sewage site, contributing to environmental maintenance and site preparation within the GMC area.

Day Four: Completion of Work and Royal Tokha
On the final day, remaining work was completed before 10:30 a.m., after which all volunteers gathered at Mao Chu (river) for the concluding royal event. His Majesty the King, in the presence of Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen and Their Royal Highnesses, granted tokha to the volunteers in recognition of our dedicated service, marking a meaningful conclusion to the program.

The participation of SSU in the Fourth GMC Volunteer Program reflects Sherubtse College’s strong commitment to national service, environmental stewardship, and community engagement, while fostering unity, discipline, and teamwork among students and staff.

Our Social Service Unit (SSU) team, led by the coordinator along with a few friends, conducted a ration outreach visit to Agay Tenzin, providing essential supplies for the next two months, including rice, oil, and other daily necessities. We are pleased to share that our grandfather is in good health during this visit.

Afterwards, the SSU team visited another family in Ritsangdung, Kanglung Gewog, to assess a child who requires special care and urgent support. The situation is deeply concerning, and the family is in need of assistance in several areas. Detailed information regarding their condition and the support required will be shared soon.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mrs. Ngawang Choden, Tshogpa of Retshangdung, for her guidance and support in helping us reach the family’s home today. Additionally, we offer a heartfelt thank you to all the SSU team who accompanied the coordinator—their support, time, and kindness made this outreach meaningful and successful.

We deeply appreciate every form of help and support from the community and beyond. The SSU team remains committed to finding a suitable solution to support the family as soon as possible.
