Growing, learning, and making an impact this summer!

This summer, CDCD was proud to welcome a group of talented summer staff through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program. Across five departments, our summer staff brought fresh ideas, energy, and meaningful contributions to our programs, services and community.

In this video, hear directly from our staff as they reflect on their experiences, the skills they developed and what their time at CDCD meant to them.

We were also honoured to welcome MP Jennifer McKelvie (Jennifer McKelvie), MP for Ajax, who took the time to meet with our summer staff, hear about their experiences and learn more about the contributions they made during their time here.

We’re incredibly grateful for the dedication, creativity, and hard work each staff member brought to CDCD. Thank you for being part of our team and for helping us continue to impact lives and transform communities.

CDCD's Donations Program, in partnership with United Way Durham Region, is hosting a Back to School Backpack Event, providing FREE backpacks for children who are starting or returning to school. Registration is required, and families can choose from two pickup locations and dates.

Join us for the final session of our Newcomer Youth Gardening Program on Monday, July 28, and enjoy a fun morning of learning, connecting, and giving back to the community!

Participants will begin with an engaging in-class workshop before heading outdoors to help care for our Community Garden. Along the way, you'll learn about local agriculture, plants and vegetables, teamwork, and community building—all while meeting new friends from across Durham Region.

Community service hours will be provided to all participants.

We're excited to announce that the CDCD Donations Program is launching a Weekly Food Pantry beginning Monday, June 15.

Community members are welcome to visit the pantry every Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Wood Buffalo National Park Room (Student Kitchen) at the Ajax Welcome Centre to access available food items.

Important Information:

• Please bring your own reusable bags.
• Item limits may apply based on weekly availability to ensure fair access for all.
• No registration is required—simply drop in.

Our Fundamental Computer Skills Training at the Oshawa Welcome Centre provided participants with practical, hands-on learning to help them navigate today's digital world with greater confidence. Throughout the training, we offer clients the opportunity to strengthen their computer and internet skills, learn how to access online services safely, communicate effectively, and use digital tools for everyday tasks.

These skills help increase independence, improve access to information and services, and support success in daily life.
