On October 3, the Amherst Police Department hosted our first Regimental Dinner in 30 years.

The evening brought together first responders, justice officials, family members, community partners, and guests from across the Maritimes. We were honoured to welcome Nova Scotia Attorney General and Minister of Justice Scott Armstrong as our guest speaker.

The evening concluded with a special presentation recognizing Chief Dwayne Pike for 30 years of exemplary service.
An event like this would not have been possible without the generous support of our community. The Amherst Police Department would like to sincerely thank the sponsors who helped make the evening a success:
Maritime Pride Eggs, Amherst Chrysler, Canadian Tire, Tantramar Chevrolet, Atlantic Police Association, GardaWorld, Kim and Arlene Maddison, Robert and Angela Gregan, Kent Thompson, Amherst Tim Hortons, Jacob Melanson and Family, MD Charlton, Uniform Works, The Body Oasis, Town of Amherst, Lacey Fisher – RE/MAX, Coldstream Clear Distillery, Bridgestone, Ben Pitman, Clint MacNichol Photography, and Harrison’s Home Hardware.

To each of our sponsors, community partners, and everyone who joined us for the evening: thank you. Your support and generosity helped make the return of this longstanding tradition a memorable one. We are incredibly fortunate to serve a community that continues to support us and the work we do.

Thank you,
Amherst Police Department

Today, the Amherst Police Department recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

September 30 is a day to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, the Survivors who did, and the families and communities who continue to live with the lasting impacts of the residential school system.

Truth and reconciliation require more than acknowledgement. They require listening, learning, reflection, and an ongoing commitment to building relationships grounded in respect, dignity, and understanding.

As members of the policing community, we recognize that this work also requires reflection on the historical and ongoing experiences of Indigenous peoples within justice systems and a commitment to doing better in the relationships we build and the communities we serve.

Today, we encourage our community to take time to learn, listen to Indigenous voices, and reflect on the role each of us can play in reconciliation.
