At Devxchange, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live with dignity, access essential resources and realize their full potential. While significant progress has been made around the world, many children and families continue to face barriers to safety, healthcare, education and the support they need to thrive.

That is why Devxchange provides grants to community-led organizations for charitable activities that advance education, relieve poverty and strengthen communities. These grants support locally led programs designed to respond to the needs and priorities of the communities they serve.

Today, we’re proud to share a success story from the grant-supported God Bless Orphanage program. Since 2018, the program has supported Marko Meschack’s secondary education, helping him pursue his academic goals. Today, Marko is attending college to become a pharmacy assistant.

His journey is a powerful reminder of what is possible when people have access to education and opportunity. Education can help individuals support themselves, strengthen their communities, improve access to essential services and contribute to long-term economic development.

Today, on National Women’s Equality Day, we recognize the progress that has been made toward gender equality while acknowledging the work that still lies ahead.

Around the world, nearly 3 billion women do not have access to the same career opportunities as men because of restrictive laws and systemic barriers. These inequalities limit women's ability to earn an income, support their families, and reach their full potential.

At Devxchange, we believe that every woman deserves the opportunity to build a secure and independent future. That's why we work alongside communities to create sustainable pathways to education, employment, and entrepreneurship for women and girls.

In Ethiopia, many girls face significant challenges in accessing the skills and opportunities needed to achieve long-term economic independence. Through our Newlivelihood program, we provide vocational training, practical life skills, and entrepreneurship support that equip young women with the tools they need to find meaningful employment or start their own businesses.

When women are empowered with skills and opportunities, the benefits extend far beyond the individual. Families become more financially secure, communities grow stronger, and future generations are better positioned to thrive.

National Financial Awareness Day 💙

Today, on National Financial Awareness Day, we recognize the importance of financial literacy and economic empowerment. Being financially aware means understanding how to manage income and expenses, make informed decisions about debt, save for the future, and build long-term financial stability. These are essential tools that help individuals and families create brighter, more secure futures.

At Devxchange, we believe that lasting change begins by equipping people with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to become financially independent. Through our income-generation initiatives, we work alongside communities to help break the cycle of poverty and create sustainable livelihoods.

Through New Hope, individuals living in extreme poverty receive training from skilled agents on how to responsibly manage loans and develop small businesses. By combining financial education with entrepreneurship, participants are better prepared to generate sustainable income, support their families, and strengthen their communities.

Happy World Wide Web Day!

The World Wide Web has transformed the way we connect with one another. Beyond providing instant access to information, it has created opportunities for people around the world to learn, collaborate, and raise awareness about the issues that matter most.

Before the web, sharing information relied on printed media, broadcasting, or face-to-face communication—methods that often limited both access and reach. Today, the web has broken down many of those barriers, making it easier than ever to stay informed, exchange ideas, and work together across borders.

At Devxchange, the web plays a vital role in everything we do. Our project leaders and volunteers use it every day to communicate, collaborate, and support projects around the world. It also allows us to share updates, showcase our initiatives, and provide valuable resources and benchmarks to our contributors.

National Disability Independence Day

Independence isn't just about accessibility. It's about removing the barriers that prevent people from living with dignity.

Halid, a young boy in Ethiopia living with a disability, relied on his mother to help him with everyday tasks. But one of his greatest challenges wasn't his disability—it was poverty.

His family couldn't afford a mattress. Instead, Halid slept on blankets on the floor of their small mud home. Without a bed, he couldn't sit himself up by swinging his legs over the side in the morning. At night, he faced the cold with little protection. His family had to make an impossible choice between buying food or providing him with the basic items he needed.

Through Devxchange, those barriers were removed.

Halid received a mattress, warm bedding designed to keep him comfortable through the cold nights, and his family received food so they no longer had to choose between meeting his basic needs and putting meals on the table.

Disability should never be made harder by poverty.

On National Disability Independence Day, we're reminded that independence often begins with access—to basic necessities, supportive communities, and opportunities that many of us take for granted.

Together, we can help remove barriers and create a world where everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity, comfort, and greater independence.

International Be a Good Teammate Day

Great things happen when people work together.

At Devxchange, every successful project is built on teamwork—not just within our organization, but between Canadians and community leaders around the world who share a common goal of creating lasting change.

Being a good teammate means listening before leading. It means respecting local knowledge, sharing ideas, celebrating successes together, and working through challenges as partners.

Nelson Mandela believed that lasting change begins with people who have the courage to improve their own communities.

Justice is the Foundation for Freedom

When we think of international justice, we often think of courts and treaties. But the real-world impact of the rule of law is much closer to home. It is found in the markets, farms, and small businesses of women entrepreneurs.

Peace, stable legal systems, and human rights protections are the foundation that allows microloan programs in Ethiopia to thrive.

Why Justice Matters for Microfinance:

Stability: Safe communities mean women can open their shops, transport goods, and run businesses without fear of conflict or displacement.

Rights: Stronger legal frameworks protect women's property rights, ensuring they keep the income they earn.

Investment: Global accountability encourages international donors to fund local microcredit institutions, putting capital directly into women's hands.

True justice isn't just about punishing the wrongdoers. It is about building a stable world where every woman has the security to invest in her future, grow her business, and lift her family out of poverty.
