Last night we came together in a good way to create braided sweetgrass hoop earrings. Community members worked together to braid their sweetgrass, weaving their intentions into every strand as they created their pieces.

What made the evening especially meaningful was that the process encouraged people to work together. Community members helped one another with braiding techniques, shared knowledge, and took the time to support those who were learning. Through that process, conversations naturally unfolded, stories were shared, and relationships continued to grow. There is something powerful about creating alongside one another, where the work itself becomes a reason to connect.

As people worked, there was care not only for the earrings themselves, but also for who they were being created for. Some were making earrings for themselves, while others were creating gifts for loved ones. In each case, community members took the time to work in a way that honoured both themselves and the people who would eventually receive their work. Those intentions became part of every braid.

Sweetgrass carries many teachings. It reminds us of our connection to the land, to one another, and to the responsibilities we carry as Indigenous people. Like the strands woven together to create a braid, our relationships with community, family, and Creation are strongest when they are nurtured and cared for.

There were many meaningful interactions throughout the evening, with community members taking the time to engage with one another in a genuine way. These moments of connection, learning, and shared experience are what make spaces like this so important. They strengthen our sense of belonging and help carry teachings forward in a natural way.

By creating together, supporting one another, and sharing space in a good way, we continue walking in line with the teachings of Mino Bimaadiziwin.

Miigwech and Nya:Węh to everyone who joined us.
