A big thank you to GlobalMedic for once again supporting our community with a generous donation of hygiene products. These much needed items will be shared through our Supportive Housing and Outreach Teams at BNH throughout the community.

This summer our teams have continued connecting with community members and providing care, connection and practical support, including service referrals, basic hygiene supplies, water, snacks, clean clothing and footwear, pantry bags, and whatever else we have been able to gather through donations.

Sometimes the simplest things can make a meaningful difference, and just as important is the connection, taking the time to listen, build trust and remind people that their community cares.

A big thank you to GlobalMedic, our generous community, and our amazing BNH staff for continuing to work together to care for our community.

Brantford Native Housing is hosting our 5th Annual Truth and Reconciliation Event!

Friday, September 18th, 2026
5:00-8:30 PM
Mohawk Park, 51 Lynwood Drive, Brantford

Please join us as we come together to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Let us come together to listen, learn, reflect, and honour the resilience of Indigenous peoples while advancing meaningful reconciliation in our community.

Please wear an orange shirt or bring packaged snacks in exchange for a BNH orange shirt.

We are grateful to welcome local vendors and community partners who will be joining us to share resources, services, and cultural connections. Food will be provided while supplies last.

Aaniin, She:kon Brantford Native Housing Community,

Tonight, our community gathered for a Willow Ring Making program, spending time learning about the willow tree, where it comes from, and the teachings we can find within the natural world around us.

We talked about the weeping willow, its relationship with water and the way its branches naturally bend and reach toward the earth. As we worked with the willow, we shaped each piece into a circle, not simply because it is beautiful, but because the circle carries meaning.

The circle reminds us of the way we understand creation: there is no beginning or end, no part that exists above another. Everything around us is connected, and every living part has its place and purpose. We are one part of a much larger creation, walking alongside the trees, waters, animals, plants, and all the other beings we share this world with.

We also reflected on the circle as a representation of our own journey through life. We enter this world and, eventually, we leave it, returning to the same creation that carried us throughout our journey. There is movement, change, growth, and return, but the circle continues.

As our community shaped the willow into rings, we were not only making something with our hands. We were spending time thinking about our relationship with the land, with creation, and with one another.

🌽 BEADED CORN COMMUNITY PROJECT 🌽

Help us create something meaningful together!

Join the BNH team on Tuesday, September 15 for an evening of creating mini beaded corn pieces as part of a community art project for our Truth and Reconciliation event this September.

This is a take one, leave one project, create a beaded corn piece to take home with you, and leave one behind to become part of our collective artwork. Each piece left behind will be brought together to create a larger community art piece, representing the many hands, stories, and contributions that make up our community.

As we prepare for our 5th Annual Truth and Reconciliation Event on September 18th, we’re looking for Indigenous dancers to join us and share their gifts with our community.

We are hoping to welcome dancers representing a variety of styles and generations, including:

• Women’s Traditional
• Men’s Fancy
• Women’s Fancy
• Jingle Dress
• Chicken Dance
• Woodland Dance
• Grass Dance
• Youth dancers in all categories

Tonight was another Craft & Chat night, and it was a beautiful reminder that sometimes the best part of creating is simply having a place to sit together, work with our hands, and share time in community.

Everyone worked on something a little different. Some community members finished up their birchbark earrings, while others continued working on two-row wampum keychains, big-stitch hoops, peyote-stitch hair sticks, and other projects they brought from home.

Craft & Chat is about more than completing a project. It is about creating space to learn from one another, share knowledge, talk, laugh, and spend time together while our hands stay busy. Every project around the table carries a little piece of the person creating it, and every conversation becomes part of the experience.

We are grateful for the creativity, knowledge, and stories that continue to fill our programming space. These evenings remind us that culture can be found not only in what we make, but in the relationships we build while making it.
