Earlier today Llenllenéy'ten (High Bar First Nation) issued an Evacuation Order for High Bar I.R 1, High Bar I.R 1A, and High Bar I.R 2. Here is what that Order means, and what it does not mean.
This Order protects land, not houses. No family is being displaced from a home, because these reserve lands have never had electricity or potable water. What is at risk is part of Llenllenéy'ten Tmícw (our land): ancestral ground along the Fraser River where our families have fished for generations, and where we carry a responsibility to the generations still to come.
That is also why the Order is firm. There is no cell service in these areas, and no emergency support is available if you encounter trouble. With fire in the area, anyone who enters is at risk, and a single spark could start a new fire.
Do not enter High Bar I.R 1, I.R 1A, or I.R 2 for any purpose, including fishing and recreational vehicle use, while this Order is in effect. The map of the ordered area is attached. The shaded areas are the reserve lands covered by this Order.
Kúkpi7 and Council will reassess this Order as conditions change and will share any update through our official channels.
