#545 - The Cornwall Police Service is pleased to host a Police Bicycle Operator Course in partnership with the Ottawa Police Service and Smiths Falls Police Service.

Over the next few days, residents may notice a large group of police cyclists training throughout The City of Cornwall. The course provides officers with specialized skills to safely and effectively patrol on bicycles in a variety of environments.

As the CPS continues to enhance its Police Bicycle Program, officers will be increasingly visible this summer in our neighbourhoods, parks and along the waterfront — helping to strengthen community engagement and public safety.

#545 - We've observed a number of questions and comments from community members recently regarding CCTV cameras in The City of Cornwall.

In the interest of transparency and public awareness, we're sharing information from the Cornwall Police Service 2025 Annual Report about the city's CCTV network, how it has been modernized and how it supports public safety and investigations.

🚔 📹 🚔

The Cornwall Police Service undertook a significant modernization of the city’s CCTV (closed-circuit television) network in 2025, replacing aging infrastructure with advanced, future-ready technology. The previous system had reached end-of-life status and could no longer support expansion or integration with newer tools, limiting its effectiveness in meeting the city’s growing public safety needs.

With the support of targeted grant funding, the CPS successfully upgraded to a more robust and scalable platform. The new system delivers substantially improved image quality, offering clearer, sharper footage that enhances both real-time monitoring and post-incident investigations. Cameras now provide comprehensive 360-degree coverage, reducing blind spots and increasing situational awareness in key areas across the city.

In addition to improved hardware, the upgraded system introduces advanced analytics capabilities. Features such as object detection allow for more efficient identification of suspicious activities or items, enabling quicker response times and more proactive policing. Enhanced end-user accessibility ensures that officers and authorized personnel can retrieve and analyze footage more efficiently, improving operational effectiveness.

CCTV cameras continue to play a vital role in both crime prevention and investigation. Their visible presence acts as a deterrent, while the high-quality evidence they capture supports successful case resolution.

The CPS remains committed to the ongoing expansion of its CCTV network, with plans to increase coverage annually. These investments reflect a broader strategy to leverage technology in strengthening community safety and modernizing policing services.

CPS MISSION: A trusted police service partnering with our community for a positive impact on safety and wellbeing in Cornwall.
