#545 - Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.

Do you know what to do if you suspect someone is experiencing an overdose?

Know the signs:
⚠️ Slow, weak or no breathing
⚠️ Cannot be woken or is unresponsive
⚠️ Pinpoint pupils
⚠️ Blue, grey or pale lips or skin
⚠️ Gurgling, choking or unusual snoring sounds

If you suspect an overdose:
☑️ Call 9-1-1
☑️ Administer Naloxone/Narcan, if available
☑️ Stay with the person until help arrives

Naloxone/Narcan can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose.
When in doubt, call 9-1-1.

🚨Don’t be afraid to call for help🚨
Canada’s 'Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act' provides some legal protection for people who experience or witness an overdose and call 9-1-1 or their local emergency number for help.

#545 - It's back to school for French-language students in our community! 🎒📚

As students return to classrooms on Tuesday morning, the Cornwall Police Service will be out in the community helping keep school zones safe.

A reminder to drivers:

🚗 Slow down and watch for children
🚌 Stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing
👀 Stay alert near crosswalks, school entrances and bus stops
📵 Put the phone away and keep your attention on the road

A few extra seconds of patience can make all the difference. Let’s make sure every student gets to and from school safely.

ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE – SATURDAY, AUGUST 22

Please be advised of temporary road closures this Saturday morning for the Cornwall Triathlon Young Champions – Kids Day.

Road closures will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on:

Harbour Road
Bergeron Lane
Marlborough Street South, from Water Street to Harbour Road
Water Street East, eastbound lane from Sydney Street to Marlborough Street

Due to the ongoing reconstruction of Race Street, these closures are necessary to provide a safe, vehicle-free cycling route for our young athletes.

Our athletes ages 7–14 will be cycling on the roadway, with one age group racing at a time. The cycling portion of the Kids Day events is expected to be finished by 10:00 a.m.

We ask motorists to please plan ahead, use alternate routes and respect the instructions of volunteers stationed at road closure points. Driving on a closed road is a violation of the Highway Traffic Act and may result in a $110 fine.

Thank you to our neighbours and the Cornwall community for your patience and cooperation while we give our young athletes a safe place to race.
