Why am I running for Mayor?

There are many reasons, but these two are a big part of why I’m doing this.

I want my kids to plant their roots here in Delta.

I want them to have opportunities to build a life here. Good jobs. Reliable transit. Great places to shop, eat and gather. Facilities where they can play sports, stay active and build community.

I want them to raise their children in a Delta that is safe, where neighbourhoods are thoughtfully planned, well cared for and connected.

And I want to live in a Delta that has the resources to care for their aging mom when that time comes.

That takes more than managing what we have today. It takes a vision for where we are going tomorrow.

A vision that puts every generation living in Delta at the centre of our decisions.

That’s the Delta I want to build.

We couldn’t agree more with Julie Berks.

Tammy’s experience as a Certified Professional Accountant gives her a strong understanding of budgets, accountability and the importance of making thoughtful financial decisions. Those skills are incredibly valuable around the Council table.

But it’s the combination of that practical experience with Tammy’s genuine commitment to community that makes her such a strong candidate.

Tammy understands that Delta is made up of three distinct communities, each with its own priorities and concerns. She listens, asks questions and believes in finding practical solutions that work for Delta as a whole.

Thank you, Julie, for your thoughtful endorsement and for recognizing the kind of leadership Tammy will bring to City Council.

I am pleased to offer my enthusiastic endorsement of Tammy Hansen for City Council. Tammy is the kind of thoughtful, capable, and community-minded leader our city needs.

As a Certified Professional Accountant, Tammy brings a practical understanding of budgets, accountability, and responsible decision-making. Those skills matter deeply in local government, where every dollar should be handled carefully and every decision should reflect the needs of the people it serves.

What makes Tammy especially well-suited for this role is not only her professional experience, but also her heart for service. Through her community involvement and charity leadership, she has shown a genuine commitment to helping others, bringing people together, and working toward practical solutions that strengthen the whole community.

Tammy is also well versed in the issues facing all three city districts. She understands that each district has its own priorities and concerns, and she approaches those differences with respect, curiosity, and a desire to represent the entire city fairly.

I believe Tammy Hansen would bring integrity, financial wisdom, compassion, and steady leadership to City Council. I am proud to support her candidacy and encourage my fellow voters to give her serious consideration and support.

A little reminder as we head toward October 17.

We believe Delta’s civic conversation should be exactly that: a conversation.

We welcome questions. We welcome disagreement. We welcome people who see things differently than we do. That is part of democracy, and it makes our community stronger.

What we won’t tolerate is personal attacks, aggressive behaviour, harassment or rude comments directed at our candidates, volunteers, supporters or other members of our community.

We can’t control what others say about us or to us. But we can control what happens on our own platforms.

That means comments that cross the line will be removed. Not because we don’t want to hear criticism, but because we believe people should be able to participate in the conversation without being attacked.

There are plenty of candidates, ideas and perspectives to choose from this election. Let’s challenge the ideas, ask the tough questions and debate the issues.

Let’s keep it respectful. Delta deserves nothing less.

Every conversation matters.

Over the past few months, the Delta First team has had the opportunity to meet residents across Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta, hear what matters to you, and have meaningful conversations about the future of our community.

From doorsteps and meet and greets to community events and coffee shop conversations, you’ve shared your ideas, concerns, hopes and questions with our entire team.

To everyone who has taken the time to talk with us, challenge us, encourage us, and share your vision for Delta: thank you.

We know that asking for your vote on October 17 means asking for your trust. And if elected, the Delta First team is committed to earning that trust every day by listening, showing up, having the hard conversations, and putting the interests of Delta first.

Thank you for believing in a better way forward. We’re grateful to be on this journey with you.

In this episode of The Delta First Podcast with Carrie Candy, Alex Fischer sits down to talk about something that goes beyond politics: community.

With his immediate family overseas, Alex shares how Delta has shown up for him and given him a sense of belonging and community he never knew was possible.

He also talks about his advocacy work, what motivates him to speak up for residents, and why he believes having different perspectives around the Council table is a strength, not a weakness.

Because good decisions don't happen when everyone agrees. They happen when people are willing to bring different viewpoints to the table, have the hard conversations, listen to one another, and work toward what is best for Delta.

Thank you, Delta.

Over the summer, we had the opportunity to meet with residents at Meet & Greets across Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta. To everyone who came out, shared a concern, asked a question, offered an idea or simply stopped by to say hello, thank you.

These conversations have been one of the most valuable parts of this campaign. We’ve heard directly from residents about what is working, what isn’t, and what they want to see for the future of Delta.

Most importantly, we’ve been listening.

And listening only matters if it leads to action. That’s what we’re planning for.

Now, we’re taking the campaign to the doorstep. Our team will be spending the coming weeks door knocking throughout Delta, meeting more residents and continuing the conversations we started this summer.

We also have two more opportunities to connect in person: our Rose & Crown fundraiser and our campaign kickoff.

Visit deltafirst.ca for details on both events and to find out how you can get involved.

This weekend, Delta First BC hosted a small event, and I was incredibly touched to have some of my DPD alumni come out to support me.

Board members, colleagues, chiefs and deputy chiefs who have each played an important role in my life and career.

During my 12 years with the Delta Police Department, I learned so much from each of them. They were, and continue to be, exceptional leaders who have dedicated so much to our community.

Thank you Jim, Norm, Joan and Peter for being part of my life and for the leadership, mentorship and friendship you have given me over the years.

I’m incredibly grateful.

I've known Tammy for over 20 years and have watched her give back to our community through Rotary and Delta Fastpitch.
As the retired General Manager of Parks, Recreation & Culture for the City of Delta, I know a city is only as strong as its team. Delta needs a council that respects its staff, listens to its residents, and governs with transparency and accountability.
Tammy brings the fiscal discipline, objective perspective, and integrity that City Hall needs. She has my full support for Delta Council.

An endorsement like this means a lot.

Lynda Steele doesn’t live in Delta. But she knows Melissa, knows how she works, and knows the kind of leader she is.

“Super smart, pragmatic, hard working… with a vision.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
Thank you, Lynda, for believing in Melissa and in the future of Delta.
On October 17, Delta has a choice. Fresh, accountable leadership starts with Melissa Granum for Mayor

Running a campaign takes a village, and grassroots efforts like ours rely entirely on the support of neighbors who want to see real change in our community.

Signs, flyers, and outreach materials cost real money, and every single dollar helps Delta First get our message out to voters across Delta.

If you are in a position to chip in , whether it’s $20, $50 or whatever you can spare it directly powers our team on the ground.
