We are THRILLED to have Alex join Delta First. Alex, Tammy, Jat and Melissa are excited to meet members of the North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen communities. We want to hear your concerns and hopes for Delta and put them into practice, not just talk about it.
Help our grassroots team gain momentum by sharing, dming us and chatting with your friends about the need for change in Delta.
A Commitment to Delta and Those Who Call It Home
Dear friends and neighbours,
Thank you to so many of you who have been incredibly supportive in these early days. Your words of encouragement mean a great deal to me, and they strengthen my resolve every day.
As my conversations continue, I feel grateful for the opportunity to learn more from so many of our fellow Deltans. Whether it is at community events, meetings, coffee chats, or conversations at the door, one thing has become clear: there are many areas where Delta can do better.
There has been a lot of talk about experience. I know the experience I have had, and I know the experience many residents have had over the last four years. Now, I want to speak clearly about the kind of experience I hope to bring to Delta: one that challenges the old way of doing things and brings forward a more open, imaginative, and community-driven approach to local government.
You can expect:
1. A renewed and fresh approach to attracting business and investment into Delta.
2. A serious review of Delta’s needs across all communities, done with meaningful resident input, so we can better identify, prioritize, and deliver the capital projects and community support each area needs most.
3. The reintroduction and improvement of community advisory committees, so residents are empowered to speak for their communities and help shape the projects and decisions that affect them.
4. A commitment to restoring trust in City Hall by introducing better tools for transparency, record keeping, accountability, and conduct, while making it easier for residents to understand and participate in local decision-making.
5. A commitment to always standing on the side of Deltans when dealing with Victoria, Metro Vancouver, and the federal government.
6. A commitment to protecting our natural environment, parks, and green spaces as a foundational pillar in local decision-making.
There will be much more to come. And if you would like to discuss any of these commitments, or any other issues facing Delta, our first public event will be at the Sundance Pub this Saturday. Tickets are almost sold out, but I believe there may still be a few available. You might even find a good deal at the silent auction.
I look forward to working with you for a better Delta,
Alex
