Together, we’re creating something that will stand as lasting symbols of our community.

Carving has begun and we’re well on our way to seeing the first tree, representing the Indigenous roots of Paawidigong (Cooper Park) and Dryden, finished.

To complete the next step, the City needs to raise $15,000 towards the fabrication of custom mounting systems that will be both beautiful and safe to display the carvings once completed. Although only the first carving will be finalized this year, building both mounting systems now will make the installation of the second carving seamless when it is finished.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps us move closer to creating a permanent public artwork that celebrates our shared stories and can be enjoyed for generations. Donation details can be found in the comments or under the Cooper Park tab at www.dryden.ca/recreation-leisure/outdoor-spaces/

Gardening hasn’t always been a hobby. At some points it was part of the Ontario curriculum. Object study, nature study, and school gardens helped students understand their surroundings.

Learn more by visiting the “More Than a Garden: Growing Places in Northwestern Ontario” exhibit at the Dryden & District Museum until August 28th, 2026.
