πβ‘ It's Fire Prevention Week! β‘π
This year's theme is "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower." π¦Έ
Lithium-ion batteries power almost everything at home: phones, laptops, e-bikes, scooters, power tools, even kids' toys. They're safe when you treat them right, but a damaged or poorly charged battery can overheat and start a fire that spreads fast.
Use your superpower with these safe charging habits:
β
Buy products that are certified by a recognized testing lab (look for CSA, UL or ULC)
β
Use the charger and cord that came with the device
β
Charge on a hard surface, never on a bed, couch or under a pillow
β
Unplug once it's fully charged, and don't charge overnight or while you're out
β
Stop using it if it gets hot, swells, smells odd, leaks or makes noise
β
Recycle old batteries at a drop-off location. Never put them in the garbage or blue bin
β
Keep e-bikes and scooters away from exits, and make sure your smoke alarms work
