Congratulations to Paul Wilkins who retired from his role as Maintenance Supervisor with APSEA at the end of April 2026. Throughout his 18 years at APSEA, Paul kept our spaces safe and well cared for. We thank Paul for his many years of service and wish him all the best in retirement!

This summer, APSEA learner Diego attended Shad Canada at Mount Allison University, where he joined students from across Canada for a month of learning, teamwork and new experiences. He took part in workshops, community activities, volunteering and team challenges. He also gave a presentation called “Accessibility: Experiencing Deafness,” sharing his perspective and helping others think more deeply about accessibility and the experiences of people who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

Diego also worked with a team to develop an idea for a new product. His team received the Best Product Award for their project. His group also won Best Picture in a one-shot film challenge. Congratulations, Diego, on a rewarding experience at Shad Canada!

After more than two decades with APSEA, Steve Muise has begun a well-earned new chapter. Steve retired at the end of February 2026 from his role as Lead Software Architect with the IT Department. We thank Steve for his many years of service and wish him all the best in retirement.

Congratulations to Lisa Doucet on her retirement from her role as Superintendent at the end of October 2025, following nearly nine years of dedicated service with APSEA.

Throughout her time with APSEA, Lisa provided leadership and guidance in support of learners, families, staff and partners across Atlantic Canada. We are grateful for her many contributions and for the commitment she brought to APSEA’s work.

After 31 years with APSEA, Kate McCara retired in June from her role as Education Support Teacher – DHH. For more than three decades, Kate has supported learners, families and colleagues and her many years of service have made a lasting impact on the communities she has worked alongside. We wish her all the best in her retirement.
