This past weekend, members of the High Prairie Fire Department, along with crews from Big Lakes County, Fairview, County of Northern Lights, Wembley, and Peace River, took part in a packed schedule of hands-on and classroom training.

A big thank you to Tracay Depbw and Matt Smith with the County of Grande Prairie for sharing your expertise and taking the time to support and educate surrounding fire departments.

We also want to extend our appreciation to Bear Mountain Surveys Ltd. and I & P Mechanics for the vehicle donations, we’re finished with them now, you can have them back… just kidding!

Thank you to High Prairie Public Works for providing the wheel loader for the weekend and for everything you do.

And thank you to Mel with Big Lakes County Airport for the use of the shop.

Finally, thank you to everyone else who contributed in any way to making this weekend such a success. Your support is truly appreciated.

Huge thank you to I and P Mechanics for generously donating a van for our training course this weekend!
We’re bringing together 18 firefighters from High Prairie, Big Lakes County, and surrounding areas to train in vehicle extrication; building critical skills to better serve our communities.

We’re still in need of vehicles for training. If you have one you’re willing to donate, please reach out at 780-523-7733.

The High Prairie Fire Department held its 2025 Awards Night this past weekend, bringing together members, family, and friends to celebrate the dedication and achievements of our team.
A special thank you to Councillor Brian Martinson and Councillor Lane Monteith for helping to present the awards. CAO David Joy for the speech.
Congratulations to this year’s recipients:
• Firefighter David Willoughby – 5 years of service with the Town of High Prairie
• Captain Trevor Cisaroski – NFPA 1001, NFPA 1002, NFPA 1051
• Firefighter Dianna Bissell – NFPA 1041 Level 1 Instructor
• Firefighter Steven Rotenburger – Alberta Emergency Services Medal (12 years)
• Firefighter Aaron Strebchuk – Toni Belli Award
• Officer Gerry Hebert – Firefighter of the Year
We also extend our appreciation to the businesses that support our members by allowing them to respond to calls:
Town of High Prairie, Big Lakes County, Falcon Rentals, West Fraser, Sucker Creek First Nation, Telus, Hebert Motorsports, Delorme Enterprise, Pantera Contracting, and High Prairie Seed Cleaning Plant.
Deputy Fire Chief Edwina Ayles for creating the center pieces (action figures), which was a definite highlight and over 300 hours to print and paint.
It was a fantastic evening filled with laughter, recognition and even a fire call in the middle of the awards.

A huge thank you to Bear Mountain Surveys Ltd. for their generous vehicle donation to support our upcoming training!

The High Prairie Fire Department, alongside Big Lakes County Fire, will be hosting a training course on the weekend of April 18–19 and we are currently looking for more vehicles.

If you have a vehicle you’re willing to donate, it would greatly help us continue developing our skills and improving emergency response for our community.

Huge shoutout to DuraGuard Surfaces LTD, out of Grande Prairie, for knocking Phase 1 out of the park
Everything went smooth, fast, efficient, and super easy to work with. Really appreciate how accommodating your team is every step of the way.
Now it’s time to move everything back into the wash bay and get ready for Phase 2.
