💛 MEET OUR STAFF: Karen Baird 💛
Karen’s story with People in Motion started back in the summer of 2004, when her daughter Dominique joined our Youth Program. What began as a mom cheering from the sidelines quickly turned into “helping out wherever needed” — and nearly two decades later, that spirit hasn’t changed one bit!
Ask Karen about her favourite memories, and two stand out right away:
🏕️ White Lake Camping Trip (2009) A group of parents pitched in, nobody got much sleep, and the laughter of youth experiencing their very first camping trip is a memory Karen says is etched in her heart forever.
☕ Mother’s Day High Tea
Held recently at our new location, this event was all about giving our clients an experience they might not otherwise get to enjoy. Karen says moments like these are exactly why she does what she does.
In 2022, Karen officially joined the staff team — teaching Diverse Designs (our crafting program), running life skills programs, and even pitching in as a driver and with janitorial duties. By spring 2023, she’d stepped into an exciting new role: instructor for the Thompson Rivers University Life Skills Program.
Before People in Motion, Karen spent years working for a government crown corporation as a trainer and communications operator. Turns out those skills translate beautifully to the classroom — she says the transition to teaching “felt perfect,” and that her students are just as bright and enthusiastic to teach her as she is them!
With 34 years of lived experience, Karen believes she landed in exactly the right spot at exactly the right time. We’re endlessly grateful to Karen for bringing her heart, her leadership, and her laughter to the People in Motion team. 💛
